Amazon added Alexa+ to its Amazon Music mobile apps on November 4, 2025. In the United States, Amazon says every Amazon Music customer—regardless of subscription tier—can use the conversational music features at no additional cost on iOS and Android. The feature is separate from the paid version of the broader Alexa+ assistant, which gives non-Prime customers unlimited access across Amazon’s ecosystem for $19.99 per month.
What Alexa+ adds to Amazon Music
The integration puts a conversational assistant inside the Amazon Music app. Instead of entering one exact title or artist, you can describe what you remember or what you want to hear, then refine the result through follow-up questions.
Alexa+ can help identify a song from partial lyrics, an approximate era, an artist, a film or television appearance, or another contextual clue. It can also recommend music using combinations of genre, mood, tempo, decade, language, region, instruments, preferred artists and exclusions.
You can ask it to build a playlist for a situation—such as a Pacific Coast Highway drive at sunset, a Sunday reset, French café music, or ambient electronics mixed with light classical piano—and then ask for changes. Amazon says generated playlists can be saved, renamed and modified.

The assistant can also discuss lyrics, artist influences, discographies, samples, genre history, production and cultural context. Those explanations are AI-generated, so disputed or highly specific claims should be checked against artist materials, liner notes or reputable music references.
This is not a new streaming service or a separate Amazon Music plan. It is not simply the old one-command Alexa control, and it does not replace ordinary search, browse pages or editorial playlists. It also is not a guarantee that every hummed tune or ambiguous lyric will be identified; Amazon describes searches based on verbal or textual clues.
Amazon’s announcement reports that people using Alexa+ explored music three times as much as users of the original Alexa, while people seeking recommendations listened to nearly 70% more music. These are Amazon-reported engagement figures, not independent tests of recommendation accuracy or satisfaction; the announcement does not provide a sample size, study period or control methodology.

Amazon’s music-specific announcement confirms the in-app integration for U.S. customers. An April 2026 Amazon Music overview also describes availability in the U.S. app and early access in the U.K., indicating that rollout is not uniform worldwide. Amazon’s broader availability information lists additional markets, but that does not establish identical access to the Amazon Music interface in every country.

Amazon’s February 4, 2026 announcement says full Alexa+ is included with Prime in the United States. Non-Prime customers can subscribe for $19.99 per month, while the limited free chat tier is available through Alexa.com and the Alexa app. That price applies to unlimited broader Alexa+ access, not necessarily to the music-app feature.
How to open Alexa+ in the app
- Install or update the Amazon Music app on an iPhone, iPad or Android device.
- Sign in to an Amazon account with access to Amazon Music.
- Open the app and look for the lowercase “a” button in the lower-right corner.
- Tap the button and ask for a song, recommendation, playlist or explanation.
- Use follow-up requests to change the result, then save useful music or playlists to your library where the app supports it.
Amazon documents this path in its getting-started instructions. Button labels and placement can change with app versions, devices and staged rollouts.
Prompt ideas that show the difference
Find a forgotten song
- “What is the song with the lyric …?”
- “Find the track by the artist I heard in a 1990s film.”
- “What played over the opening credits of The Sopranos?”
Partial lyrics, an approximate artist or era, and soundtrack context give the assistant several clues instead of requiring an exact title.
Get a recommendation
- “Give me upbeat French pop from the 1980s with prominent bass.”
- “Recommend a road-trip mix with newer artists, but exclude country.”
- “Find calmer songs like this, with a slower tempo and different singers.”
If the first result is too broad, specify a decade, language, tempo, instruments or artists to exclude rather than restarting a new search.

Build and edit a playlist
- “Create a playlist for driving the Pacific Coast Highway at sunset.”
- “Make focus music combining ambient electronic tracks and light classical piano.”
- “Create relaxing R&B for a dog, then remove anything with explicit lyrics.”
Afterward, ask for faster songs, a different era, more variety or a renamed playlist. The resulting tracks remain subject to your account’s playback rights.
Ask about music
Questions about a sample’s origin, an artist’s influences, a discography or a genre’s development can turn the app into a conversation rather than a catalog lookup. Treat answers about credits, chart history, lyrics and disputed interpretations as leads to verify, not definitive scholarship. The assistant’s ability to discuss a song also does not promise complete reproduction of copyrighted lyrics.
Does it work with Free, Prime and Unlimited?
There are two separate issues: access to the assistant and permission to play the result. Amazon says Alexa+ in the U.S. Amazon Music app is available across all subscription tiers at no extra cost. However, the underlying Amazon Music plan, catalog availability, region, explicit-content settings and licensing rules still determine what can play on demand.
Alexa+ may understand a request, identify a track or assemble a playlist even when the account cannot play every selected song whenever the listener wants. Do not assume that a generated playlist behaves identically on Free, Prime and Unlimited accounts.

Alexa+ compared with ordinary search

Alexa+ is most useful when you cannot name the track or want several constraints handled together. Manual search remains preferable when you know exactly what you want or want a transparent, hand-curated selection.
How it relates to Spotify and Apple Music
The Amazon Music integration is an Amazon Music app feature, not an Alexa+ layer embedded inside Spotify or Apple Music. Amazon’s broader Alexa+ materials list Spotify, Apple Music, iHeartRadio and Amazon Music as supported providers for the wider assistant, but that does not establish feature parity or identical conversational controls in those services.
Listeners whose libraries, playlists and social history already live on Spotify may gain more by staying there than by moving services solely for Alexa+. Apple-device households may likewise prefer Apple Music’s ecosystem. YouTube Music remains relevant for people who prioritize videos, live versions and remixes. The cited Amazon material does not prove that Alexa+ is objectively better than any of these services’ own discovery tools.

Common limitations
- Ambiguous requests: “Something like this but less sad” can produce a plausible but subjective interpretation. Add concrete constraints when the result misses.
- Playback restrictions: Understanding a request does not override plan, region or licensing limits.
- AI factual errors: Samples, influences, credits, lyrics and music history may be incomplete or incorrect.
- Regional rollout: Accounts outside confirmed markets may not see the “a” button or may receive different languages and catalogs.
- Privacy: Conversational requests and listening activity are associated with an Amazon account, which may matter to listeners who prefer a different ecosystem.
If the “a” button is missing
- Confirm that the Amazon Music app is current.
- Check the account’s country or marketplace.
- Sign out and sign back in.
- Check for a relevant rollout or early-access enrollment.
- Force-close and reopen the app.
- Reinstall only after confirming that downloaded music and offline settings can be restored.
- Try Alexa+ through Alexa.com or the Alexa app to see whether the problem is limited to Amazon Music.
- Consult Amazon’s current support documentation before deciding that the account is unsupported.
These are practical recovery steps; Amazon’s published material confirms the access path but does not provide a complete official troubleshooting sequence.

Is Alexa+ worth using?
Try it if you use Amazon Music in the United States, often forget song titles, or want playlists built around detailed situations and moods. The no-extra-cost in-app access makes experimentation low risk, and Prime is not required for that music-specific feature.
The broader $19.99 Alexa+ subscription is a different decision. It makes sense mainly for non-Prime users who want the assistant across Alexa-enabled devices, Alexa.com and the Alexa app—not for someone who only wants conversational playlist discovery. An Echo speaker is optional; Amazon describes the mobile experience separately.
For listeners who prefer manual search, editorial playlists or another service where their library already resides, Alexa+ may not justify changing ecosystems. Its strongest advantage is conversational discovery, not a demonstrated improvement in catalog quality or playback rights.
