For the week of Oct. 5–11, 2026, Netflix’s scheduled releases offer five very different picks: a Stephen King horror adaptation, a Martin Mull documentary, a crime thriller, an adult animated comedy and a Halloween baking competition. Choose by mood and format rather than treating them as a ranking.
Netflix picks scheduled for Oct. 5–11

The five selections and dates come from Tom’s Guide’s weekly roundup, with title and date cross-checks in Netflix’s October guide.

Which one fits your viewing mood?
For a seasonal scare: The Boogeyman
This Stephen King adaptation pairs a supernatural menace with a family’s grief. It is the pick for viewers who want horror with an emotional premise, rather than a light Halloween watch.
For comedy history: Who Is Martin Mull?
This documentary looks at Martin Mull’s work across comedy, acting and music. Choose it for a real-life portrait and cultural context rather than a scripted story. Netflix’s October overview also includes it among the month’s documentaries about comedy figures.

For a tense family-and-crime story: Animals
The kidnapping of a candidate’s son drives this thriller’s high-stakes premise. Netflix describes Affleck as both co-writer and director, as well as its star. Its official guide quotes fictional character Mark: “Sometimes, justice and the letter and the law are exactly aligned. Sometimes, it requires us to make very difficult, very human, decisions.” The line is film dialogue, not a real-world expert’s assessment.
For supernatural laughs in episodes: Haunted Hotel, season 2
This adult animated comedy returns to a hotel haunted by its former owner and other spirits. Its episodic format suits viewers who want comedy with a supernatural setting, rather than a single self-contained film.

For a light, participatory competition: Is It Cake? Halloween, season 2
The Halloween installment brings back the central guessing game: cake artists create convincing cake replicas and try to fool the judges. Pick it for playful competition rather than scares or a serious documentary.

Weekly and monthly guides cover different date ranges, and editorial selections are not the same as a complete release calendar. Netflix’s Oct. 2 weekly guide covers Oct. 2–8 and highlights other arrivals, including Lorne, Mayor of Kingstown seasons 1–4 and Super BOOMi. Its October guide also lists East of Eden, Zoe Kazan’s adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel, as a month-wide incoming title; that does not make it one of these five picks for Oct. 5–11. Differences in territory, week boundaries and selection criteria can all change what a roundup includes.
