On January 3, 2024, Iggy Azalea said she would not finish her then-paused next album and wanted to focus on design and creative direction. Her statement explained a change in creative priorities; it did not clearly announce a permanent retirement from music.
What did Iggy Azalea announce?
In a post to fans on X on January 3, 2024, Azalea said, “That’s why I want to let you know that I’m not going to finish my album.” The Independent reported the announcement the next day and said the album had been paused for a few months while she gave direction to a different project. The Independent’s January 4, 2024 report reproduced her explanation.

Why did she decide not to finish the album?
Azalea said she felt more drawn to design and creative direction than to songwriting. As she put it: “In truth what I’ve known for a long time is that I feel more passionately about design and creative direction than I do about song writing.” She described the decision as what felt best for her, rather than saying she had been forced out of music.
Was she quitting music permanently?
That is broader than what her statement established. Contemporary coverage described her as hinting that her time as a musician might be ending, but the direct announcement was specific: she would not complete that album and intended to pursue other creative work. It should not be treated as an unequivocal declaration that she would never make music again.

What is known about her career status now?
The announcement and reports cited here document her plans in January 2024. They do not establish whether she later resumed music or changed direction, so they should not be read as a current career update. PerthNow’s January 4, 2024 report covered the same announcement.
