For a mix of inventive premises, memorable scares, comedy and cultural impact, Get Out is the strongest place to start. This ranking is an editorial selection, not an official Blumhouse canon: it weighs critical reputation, accessibility, distinctiveness and the range of horror each film offers. The list draws on the different approaches taken by Rotten Tomatoes, Tom’s Guide and TIME, while making its own choices about order.
The 19 best Blumhouse horror movies
Blumhouse’s catalogue spans social thrillers, supernatural hauntings, slashers, found footage and horror-comedy. These films are ranked for the strength of their ideas and execution, as well as how well they represent that variety. Release years and director credits are included where confidently established; consult the Blumhouse catalogue or its film page for current title-level catalogue information.
-
Get Out
Jordan Peele’s social thriller turns a visit to a girlfriend’s family into a steadily tightening nightmare. Its sharp satire, uneasy humor and escalating horror work together rather than competing for attention. Tom’s Guide placed it first in its April 2025 Blumhouse ranking, making it a particularly strong starting point for newcomers.
-
Paranormal Activity
Oren Peli’s found-footage film makes a bedroom and a quiet house feel threatening through what the camera barely catches. The minimal setup gives small sounds and movements unusual weight, and the film became a defining early title in Blumhouse’s rise. It is a good pick for viewers who prefer slow-building dread to elaborate effects.

Happy Death Day
Christopher Landon gives the slasher a time-loop engine: a college student repeatedly relives the day she is murdered and has to work out who is responsible. The mystery and dark comedy keep the premise moving, while the repeated deaths preserve the genre’s funhouse edge.
-
Unfriended
Presented through a computer screen, this online-centered horror film turns messages, video calls and social-media activity into the setting for a group’s unraveling. Its format makes ordinary digital habits feel exposed and claustrophobic, so it stands apart from more conventional haunted-house stories.
-
The Black Phone
Scott Derrickson’s supernatural thriller brings a chilling premise into a story of captivity, fear and resistance. Its grim atmosphere and child-centered point of view make it a more somber choice than Blumhouse’s horror-comedies, with the supernatural element intensifying rather than softening its menace.
-
M3GAN
Gerard Johnstone’s technology-centered horror-comedy makes an artificial companion both funny and unsettling. The film’s central idea is easy to grasp, but its appeal comes from the tonal balance: it can play as a satirical piece of pop spectacle and as a story about a machine becoming dangerous. Rotten Tomatoes’ broad Blumhouse ranking described it as the studio’s best-reviewed horror film since Get Out at the time that guide was written; that is a time-bound comparison, not a current all-time standing.

The Gift
Joel Edgerton’s psychological thriller builds dread from an unwelcome presence in an apparently secure domestic life. Instead of relying on supernatural rules, it lets social discomfort and uncertainty do the frightening work, making it a useful choice for viewers who like slow-burn suspense.

A writer investigating a family’s disappearance uncovers disturbing recordings in this dark supernatural mystery. Scott Derrickson builds its unease around the act of watching, allowing the evidence itself to become part of the threat.
-
Oculus
Mike Flanagan’s haunted-mirror story makes perception the real trap. Past and present blur as the characters try to establish what is actually happening, giving the film a psychological puzzle structure alongside its supernatural scares.

Ouija: Origin of Evil
Mike Flanagan turns a familiar séance-game setup into a period ghost story centered on a family. Its measured build and focus on the household give the supernatural events emotional context, rather than treating the board as a gimmick alone.
-
The Invisible Man
Leigh Whannell reframes a classic monster concept as a story about abuse, control and credibility. The unseen threat makes empty space feel dangerous, while the protagonist’s struggle to be believed provides the film’s central tension.
-
Truth or Dare
Jeff Wadlow’s supernatural thriller weaponizes a party game, turning a familiar group activity into a chain of escalating threats. Its high-concept rules make it an accessible choice for viewers who want a fast-moving, ensemble-driven scare story.
-
Cam
Daniel Goldhaber’s psychological horror follows an online performer whose identity appears to be taken over by someone—or something—else. Its internet-age premise offers a different kind of unease from haunted houses and masked killers, focused on identity and digital visibility.

Fantasy Island
Jeff Wadlow adapts the wish-fulfillment premise into an anthology-like horror setup, where guests discover that getting what they want carries a cost. The changing scenarios give it a broader, more pulpy tone than Blumhouse’s intimate thrillers.
-
Truth or Dare
Rather than treating every title as a prestige pick, this ranking includes a more straightforward supernatural crowd-pleaser. Its game-based hook and group jeopardy make it easy to watch with friends who want genre fun more than ambiguity.

The Hunt
Craig Zobel’s satirical action-horror turns a deadly pursuit into a deliberately provocative game of reversals. Its blend of social friction, violence and dark humor makes it a tonal outlier on a list otherwise dominated by hauntings, supernatural puzzles and domestic suspense.
How to choose one for tonight
- For a smart, accessible introduction: start with Get Out.
- For restrained found-footage dread: choose Paranormal Activity.
- For scares with comic energy: try Happy Death Day or M3GAN.
- For technology-era unease: pick Unfriended or Cam.
- For a darker supernatural story: choose The Black Phone, Insidious or Sinister.
- For psychological tension rather than ghosts: try The Gift or The Invisible Man.
Why rankings of Blumhouse films differ
There is no single official list of the studio’s best horror films. Rotten Tomatoes has published both a 106-film guide ordered by Tomatometer, with Certified Fresh titles placed first, and a separate 24-film ranking. Tom’s Guide published a seven-film list in April 2025, while TIME has also used a ranked-list format. Those lists differ in scope and method; a critic-score ordering is one useful lens, not a complete measure of originality, scares, accessibility or influence.
Viewing options are territory- and date-dependent. Tom’s Guide reported that Get Out could be rented or purchased through Apple or Amazon, but that does not establish current availability in every region or a physical disc listing.
