There is no single Disney-published list establishing exactly 11 official princes. Disney Latino’s 2023 list names eight; this ranking keeps the familiar 11-character count by adding John Smith, Li Shang, and Kristoff as broader royal-adjacent or romantic-lead inclusions. The lineup and ranking below are editorial choices, not a Disney canon designation.
Who counts as a Disney prince?
Disney Latino’s article, published February 21, 2023, names Florian, Prince Charming, Prince Philip, Prince Eric, Prince Adam/the Beast, Aladdin, Prince Naveen, and Flynn Rider. Its list is a Disney-published editorial roster of eight, not an announcement that Disney has exactly eight princes. Disney Latino’s list gives the films associated with those characters.
To answer the search for 11, this article adds John Smith from Pocahontas, Li Shang from Mulan, and Kristoff from Frozen. They broaden the category beyond characters with princely titles to include prominent romantic or royal-adjacent counterparts. A third-party list similarly includes John Smith and Li Shang while noting they are not technically princes, and mentions Kristoff as another prince protagonist. That list illustrates why different rosters produce different counts.
Disney’s official Princess site lists 13 Princess characters, but that roster does not establish a matching prince lineup or one-to-one pairings. The official Princess site is evidence about that franchise roster, not an official count of princes.

How this ranking works
Disney has not supplied an objective score or ranking for these characters. The order here is editorial: it weighs agency, courageous and useful action, kindness and respect, character growth, and how convincingly the relationship develops on screen. Close placements are inevitably debatable; the aim is to judge what each character does in his own story, rather than rank titles or popularity.
The 11 Disney princes, ranked
-
1. Prince Philip — Sleeping Beauty (1959)
Philip ranks first because he is an active participant in his story rather than simply a romantic reward. He makes choices, faces danger directly, and fights through obstacles to reach Aurora. His courage is central to the resolution, giving him one of the clearest combinations of agency and useful action in this group.
-
2. Aladdin — Aladdin (1992)
Aladdin’s path is built around a consequential flaw: he believes he must disguise his identity to be worthy of Jasmine. He is resourceful under pressure and repeatedly risks himself for others, while the story makes his dishonesty part of his growth rather than glossing over it. His movement toward honesty gives his romance a meaningful arc.
-
3. Prince Naveen — The Princess and the Frog (2009)
Naveen begins as self-indulgent and unprepared for responsibility. His time with Tiana forces him to contribute, listen, and reconsider what he wants from life. That visible change, paired with his growing respect for Tiana’s ambitions, earns him a high place despite his weak start.

4. The Beast (Prince Adam) — Beauty and the Beast (1991)
The Beast’s transformation is substantial: he learns to treat Belle with care and eventually places her freedom ahead of his own hopes. That choice matters more than the enchantment’s external outcome. His early anger and coercive behavior remain real drawbacks, so his growth earns credit without making the relationship’s difficult beginning disappear.

5. Kristoff — Frozen
Kristoff is a broader inclusion rather than a conventional prince. His appeal lies in practical help, loyalty, and a willingness to support Anna without trying to control her decisions. He is less central to the film’s resolution than the top-ranked characters, but his considerate partnership stands out.
-
6. Prince Eric — The Little Mermaid (1989)
Eric is kind and courageous, and he takes action when danger arrives. His relationship with Ariel, however, has less on-screen development than the strongest romances in this ranking. He is a likable partner whose story gives him fewer opportunities to demonstrate agency and growth.
-
7. Li Shang — Mulan
Shang is a capable leader who adapts as Mulan proves herself, and his respect for her competence is important to the story. He is not technically a prince; he is included as a prominent romantic counterpart in this broader roster. His reserved characterization and the limited development of the romance keep him below the more fully explored arcs.

8. Flynn Rider — Tangled (2010)
Flynn begins as a self-interested thief, but his partnership with Rapunzel draws out loyalty and self-sacrifice. His humor and growth make him memorable, though much of his early appeal rests on charm and bravado. He becomes a better partner as he learns to put someone else’s freedom and safety first.
-
9. John Smith — Pocahontas
John Smith is another romantic lead included by the broader convention, not a prince by title. His willingness to question the conflict around him gives him some agency, but his story offers less sustained character development than the entries above. His placement reflects the limited depth of his arc, not the importance of the film’s larger themes.

10. Prince Charming — Cinderella (1950)
Charming is courteous, but the film gives him little characterization beyond seeking the woman he met at the ball. He has little agency in the central conflict and the romance is largely built around Cinderella’s experience. His rank reflects that thinly drawn role, not a lack of basic kindness.
-
11. Florian — Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
Florian is the earliest character on this roster and one of its least developed. His presence is brief, leaving little evidence to assess his choices, growth, or relationship with Snow White beyond the story’s fairytale framing. He belongs in the historically broad lineup, but there is not enough on-screen material to rank him higher by this rubric.

Why the count and order vary
“Official” can mean a character named in a Disney-published article, a prince by title or royal status, or a romantic lead commonly grouped with princes by fans and third-party lists. Those definitions do not produce the same lineup. The eight named by Disney Latino are a documented Disney-published list; the additional three here are explicit broader inclusions. Rankings vary for a separate reason: the films provide very different amounts of characterization, and any ordering depends on how agency, behavior, and relationship development are weighted.
Disney Latino points readers to Disney+ for its listed productions, but streaming catalogs can vary by location and over time. Check the service in your region for current availability.
