Shueisha’s official series page introduces the manga, and its 2025 character poll measures popularity—not fighting ability. This list is an editorial ranking based on manga evidence available through December 31, 2025. It compares demonstrated feats, scale, speed, durability, recovery, unusual abilities and their counters, while accounting for form and circumstance. Close placements are debatable, not official measurements. Shueisha’s series page and its 2025 popularity poll do not publish a strongest-character top ten.
Spoilers: The ranking discusses major manga abilities and events through the end of 2025. Anime-only viewers should stop here.
How this ranking works
The list weighs what characters actually do against formidable opponents, along with their displayed speed, scale, resilience and recovery. It also considers how an ability works, what might counter it, and the exact form, contract, preparation or situation required. Directly shown events carry more weight than in-story claims; where a placement depends on interpretation, it is identified as such. These are comparisons, not numerical power scores: a favorable matchup or different form can change the outcome.
The cutoff is December 31, 2025. VIZ’s catalog now lists chapters beyond that date, including Chapter 232 dated March 24, 2026, but those later chapters are outside this ranking. The catalog is useful for finding the licensed manga, not for backdating later evidence: VIZ’s chapter catalog.
#1 Best Overall
Who are the 10 strongest Chainsaw Man characters?
10. Reze
Version considered: Reze as the Bomb hybrid, based on manga evidence available by the cutoff. As a hybrid, she can transform into a bomb-themed combat form and recover from severe injury when revived through her trigger. Her ability to turn attacks and movement into explosions gives her both close-range threat and mobility, making her more dangerous than a conventional fighter. Her hybrid status also makes her difficult to put down permanently, but the ranking places her below the higher entries because her demonstrated destructive scale and control over a fight are less overwhelming.
Why this placement is debatable: Explosive range, surprise and the terrain could let Reze beat stronger opponents in a particular encounter. The ranking favors broader demonstrated combat capability over that matchup potential.
9. Quanxi
Version considered: Quanxi as a crossbow hybrid. Her exceptional speed and close-quarters skill let her overwhelm multiple opponents before they can respond; transforming gives her a formidable ranged attack as well. Like other hybrids, she can recover from otherwise fatal damage when her trigger is used. Her edge over Reze is the combination of speed, precision and combat experience rather than a claim that she has the greater explosive area.
Quanxi’s position is not a guarantee she wins every exchange: surprise, distance and the opponent’s abilities matter. Her strongest evidence is direct combat performance, while any ranking between fast fighters necessarily involves some inference.

Version considered: Santa Claus in the Doll Devil contract’s enhanced form, not an ordinary human body. The contract enables the creation and control of dolls, allowing danger to spread through a network rather than depend on a single body. In the empowered state, Santa also gains formidable regeneration and a threat that is difficult to answer through ordinary physical damage alone. That combination of reach, conversion and recovery places Santa above fighters whose threat is concentrated in one body.
The weakness is that the ability has conditions and counters; an opponent who understands its mechanism or can exploit its particular vulnerabilities is not facing an invulnerable force. This entry ranks the enhanced combat state, not every appearance of the character.
7. Kishibe
Version considered: Kishibe as a human hunter, with his contracts and preparation treated as situational rather than limitless. He is a highly experienced fighter who can exploit openings and fight effectively against opponents with superior physical or supernatural advantages. That tactical competence makes him more dangerous than a simple comparison of raw durability would suggest.
He ranks below the supernatural threats above because the manga does not establish that his contracts grant him comparable scale, recovery or sustained destructive power. His placement is an assessment of a prepared, resourceful hunter—not proof that he wins a direct contest against every character ranked lower.
Rank #3
6. Katana Man
Version considered: Katana Man as a hybrid. His transformation gives him high-speed, lethal slashing attacks, and hybrid recovery makes him difficult to defeat permanently. His sudden bursts of speed are a decisive threat to opponents who cannot anticipate or interrupt his charge.
He sits below the strongest hybrids here because his attack pattern is more focused and can be read or countered. The ranking reflects a dangerous, repeatable combat form, not an assumption that a single successful strike settles every matchup.
5. The Gun Devil
Version considered: The Gun Devil’s major recorded attack, rather than a claim about a fully unconstrained or continuously present version. Its attacks can kill at enormous distances and across broad areas, a scale beyond the individual combatants ranked below it. This is one of the clearest cases where range and destructive reach matter more than a conventional duel.
The evidence has an important limit: the story’s accounts and appearances do not amount to a simple, sustained one-on-one demonstration against every character above. The placement weighs the scale of the attack heavily, while acknowledging that control, circumstances and the version encountered affect how that power translates into a fight.
Rank #4
4. Makima
Version considered: Makima with her contracts and established abilities, not a hypothetical version with every possible advantage. She combines control, formidable perception and access to attacks that can affect targets at a distance. Her contract with Japan’s prime minister redirects fatal damage to Japanese citizens, making ordinary attempts to kill her radically different from defeating an opponent without that protection.
Makima ranks above the Gun Devil because her threat is not confined to a single large-scale attack: her abilities and protection make her difficult to approach, damage and permanently eliminate. The exact interaction between her powers and a particular opponent remains matchup-dependent, so this is not an assertion that every power in the series automatically fails against her.
3. Pochita, the Hero of Hell
Version considered: Pochita’s powerful Chainsaw Devil form, distinct from Denji’s ordinary hybrid fighting state. Pochita can fight multiple formidable devils, endure extraordinary punishment and regenerate. Most consequentially, devils consumed by him can be erased from existence, giving his attacks a consequence beyond physical injury. His history and demonstrated performance make him one of the clearest top-tier threats.
He ranks below the two devils above because the ranking gives their broader conceptual reach and, in one case, direct evidence of overwhelming effects greater weight. That comparison is an interpretation: the manga does not stage a neutral tournament that settles every pairing.

2. The Falling Devil
Version considered: The Falling Devil’s appearance and powers as a Primal Fear. Its connection to gravity and falling lets it affect people at a scale that goes beyond ordinary physical combat, while its status and resilience make it an exceptionally difficult opponent to defeat by force. The threat is not simply a powerful body; its abilities can impose conditions on others and disrupt a whole confrontation.
Falling ranks just below the Darkness Devil because the latter’s presentation and effects provide the stronger case for a nearly insurmountable direct threat. The close order is interpretive: distinct abilities and story circumstances make the two difficult to compare as if they had fought under identical conditions.
1. The Darkness Devil
Version considered: The Darkness Devil as encountered in Hell. As a Primal Fear, it is presented as a threat far beyond ordinary devils and hunters. Its appearance demonstrates overwhelming speed, lethal attacks and an ability to incapacitate or maim opponents before they can mount an effective response. The group confronting it includes powerful fighters, yet the encounter sharply establishes how little conventional strength can accomplish against it.
Darkness is the strongest defensible choice for this cutoff because its on-page portrayal combines overwhelming combat effectiveness with the status and fear-based power of a Primal Devil. “Strongest” remains a judgment about the available evidence, not a statement by Shueisha or Tatsuki Fujimoto. A different interpretation of Pochita’s erasure ability or another character’s conditional powers could support a different top spot.

Why the official popularity poll cannot settle strength
Shueisha’s third character poll is explicitly a popularity poll. It records reader preference, not combat outcomes, power levels or a creator-approved strength order. A popular character may be weak in a particular matchup, while an imposing antagonist may receive fewer votes. Treating the poll as a fighting ranking would answer a different question from the one this article addresses. See the official 2025 poll.
Where to read the manga behind the ranking
These placements rely on context across manga arcs, especially when a character’s form or contract changes what they can do. VIZ lists Chainsaw Man, Vol. 1 in paperback and digital formats and identifies retailers on its product page: VIZ’s volume 1 page. Readers can use the chapter catalog to locate the licensed series; availability may vary by region.
