What are the most expensive roller coasters in the world? The strongest current published record identifies Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Walt Disney World as the most expensive, with Guinness World Records reporting a cost of $500 million. But the available sources do not establish ten comparable costs, so a trustworthy ten-place ranking cannot be given without mixing figures that may cover very different things.
The best-supported record holder: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
Guinness World Records names Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind as the most expensive roller coaster and reports a cost of $500,000,000 (£370.5 million). Guinness’s guide was published on 29 July 2024 and updated on 14 August 2025. This is a Guinness-reported figure, not an audited construction account; the guide does not provide a cost breakdown. The record page places the attraction at EPCOT in Walt Disney World and gives 27 May 2022 as the record date. Guinness cautions that record changes are not necessarily posted immediately, so the page date should not be read as proof that every subsequent change would appear at once. What the $500 million figure does—and does not—tell you
The Guinness source reports the cost to make the attraction, but does not specify whether that total counts only the ride system and track or also themed buildings, show scenes, site work, and other project elements. It should therefore be treated as a reported attraction-cost figure, not as a confirmed price for coaster hardware alone.

That distinction matters when comparing roller coasters. One published figure might count the ride machinery and track; another might include an elaborate enclosed environment or a broader area of a park. Without consistent accounting boundaries, a list can look precise while comparing unlike totals.
Why a reliable ten-coaster ranking is not established
The available sources substantiate Guinness’s record holder, but they do not establish ten costs on a comparable basis. A defensible ranking would need an attributable figure for each attraction and enough detail to show what it includes. The evidence here does not provide that information for ten entries, so naming nine additional coasters and assigning them places would overstate what is known.
Rank #2
- 546 ASSORTED PIECES –This K’NEX Education set includes 546 parts, plus a battery-powered motor, for a single child or a team of two to three children building a working roller coaster. Two additional models are also included in this set — a ramp and a half-pipe — which can be built one at a time. The set requires two AA batteries, which are not included.
- OFFERS HANDS-ON LEARNING – K’NEX Education models offer proactive opportunities for introducing children to scientific inquiry, investigation, and experimentation. Inquiry-based lessons challenge young learners as they build, investigate, problem-solve, discuss, and evaluate scientific and design principles in action.
- EXPERIMENT GUIDE – Once a ride is built, an activity booklet guides learners through three hands-on, inquiry-based experiments. This experiment guide aligns with the national STEM standards and is designed for grades 5‒9. Students will learn about the relationships between time, distance, speed, and more!
- PROMOTES TEAMWORK – This educational engineering set is more fun when constructed with friends. One to three kids can put their heads together and figure out the structure, exchanging ideas as they tinker with the bits and parts, and solving the model faster through teamwork. They’ll build camaraderie and develop social skills as they play.
- STEAMagination: It’s the connection of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts & math) with a child’s natural curiosity and creativity and it powers the fun of each and every K’NEX building set. Building with K’NEX puts children on a path towards a fundamental understanding of STEAM/STEM subjects.
For readers assessing any claimed ranking, the useful questions are:
- Who reported the amount, and when?
- What currency and cost year does it use?
- Does it cover the ride system alone, a fully themed attraction, or a larger park investment?
- Are the compared figures based on the same accounting scope?
