Jordan Peele’s work spans sketch comedy, acting, screenwriting, producing and three feature films he has directed. This ranking weighs his creative role, critical and awards recognition, cultural impact and the range each title reveals. It is a subjective watchlist, not a claim that every entry is a Peele-directed project.

How this ranking works

Get Out, Us and Nope sit at the center because Peele wrote and directed them, making them the clearest expression of his feature-film voice. The list also includes comedy and projects where his contribution is acting, writing or producing. Those credits matter, but they are not interchangeable: a producer credit does not mean Peele directed a film.

Recognition and reception help provide context rather than a definitive scorecard. The Television Academy lists one Emmy win and nine nominations for Peele, including a 2016 Outstanding Variety Sketch Series win for Key & Peele and a 2021 Outstanding Drama Series nomination for Lovecraft Country. Rotten Tomatoes scores below are snapshots of the site’s displayed critic and audience ratings, accessed in 2026; they can change and are not objective measures of quality. The 10 best Jordan Peele movies and TV shows

  1. Get Out (2017)

Peele’s role: Writer and director. The Television Academy identifies it as his solo directorial debut.

Get Out is the strongest starting point because it brings Peele’s horror, social observation and carefully planted comedy into a single, tightly controlled story. Its cultural impact is matched by major recognition: Peele won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and received nominations for Best Director and Best Picture, according to the Television Academy. Rotten Tomatoes’ 2026 snapshot showed 98% from critics and 86% from audiences.

  2. Key & Peele (2012–2015)

Peele’s role: Performer, writer and executive producer. He starred alongside Keegan-Michael Key.

The sketch series is essential to understanding Peele’s range before his film career. Its recurring characters and tightly constructed premises display the comic timing and precise escalation that also serve his later genre work. The Television Academy records its 2016 Outstanding Variety Sketch Series Emmy win. It ranks just below Get Out because its achievement is collaborative and episodic rather than a single authored feature.

  3. Us (2019)

Peele’s role: Writer, director and producer.

Us expands the scale of Peele’s horror and leans into doubles, family dynamics and ambiguity. Its bold imagery and layered premise make it one of his most memorable films, even if its mysteries invite more debate than Get Out’s. Rotten Tomatoes’ 2026 snapshot showed 93% from critics and 62% from audiences, a notable gap that reflects less uniform audience reception than its critical score.

  4. Nope (2022)

Peele’s role: Writer, director and producer.

Nope takes Peele into spectacle-driven science fiction and western-inflected horror, with a story about people trying to capture an extraordinary event on camera. Its interest in looking, recording and turning danger into entertainment gives it a distinctive place among his films. Rotten Tomatoes’ 2026 snapshot showed 83% from critics and 69% from audiences. It ranks here for ambition and range, though its scale makes it a less immediate entry point than Get Out.

  5. Keanu (2016)

Peele’s role: Actor, screenwriter and producer.

This action-comedy, made with Key, is a useful counterweight to the horror features: Peele performs as well as contributing behind the scenes. Its playful premise and buddy-comedy energy show that his work with genre conventions is not confined to dread. It sits below the core films because his role is shared with collaborators and it has not become as defining a cultural touchstone.

  6. MADtv (2003–2008)

    Peele’s role: Cast member.

Peele’s earlier sketch-comedy work helps complete the picture of his television career. He was a cast member on MADtv before Key & Peele, making it a worthwhile watch for viewers interested in the development of his on-screen comedy. The available award and credit records establish his cast connection, but do not support treating the series as a Peele-authored project.

  7. Wendell & Wild (2022)

Peele’s role: Voice performer, screenwriter and producer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This stop-motion fantasy-horror film broadens the palette beyond live-action thrillers. Peele’s writing and voice performance make it a substantive creative connection, while the animated form brings a different texture to his recurring interest in the uncanny. Rotten Tomatoes’ 2026 snapshot showed 80% from critics and 64% from audiences.

  8. Candyman (2021)

Peele’s role: Screenwriter and producer; not the director.

Candyman extends a horror story through a new film shaped by Peele’s writing and producing, while Nia DaCosta directed it. That distinction matters: it belongs on a Peele watchlist as a significant creative association, not as one of his directed features. It also shows how his work can engage with an established horror property rather than originate a story from scratch.

  9. Fargo (2014)

    Peele’s role: Actor.

Peele appeared in the first season of Fargo, bringing his performance work into a crime anthology rather than a project he wrote or directed. The role is a useful reminder that his screen career includes acting outside his own comedy and film projects. It ranks lower because the connection documented here is performance, not authorship.

  10. Lovecraft Country (2020)

    Peele’s role: Executive producer.

Lovecraft Country rounds out the list as a television production credit rather than a Peele-led series. Its mix of horror, history and genre storytelling makes it relevant alongside his screen work, and the Television Academy record includes an Outstanding Drama Series nomination in 2021. That recognition belongs to the series; it should not be mistaken for an individual acting or directing credit for Peele.

  • For the clearest introduction to Peele as a filmmaker: start with Get Out.
  • For his comedy and television work: watch Key & Peele, then explore MADtv for an earlier cast credit.
  • For a broader view of his horror and genre range: follow Get Out with Us and Nope.
  • For credits beyond directing: choose Keanu for acting and co-writing, Wendell & Wild for animation, or Candyman for screenwriting and producing.

Roles and award records are summarized by the Television Academy and Rotten Tomatoes. Rotten Tomatoes scores are live ratings, not permanent rankings; the figures cited here reflect the 2026 snapshot used for this article.
