Its ten picks draw on 2025 Tony Award winners and nominees, with a mix of musicals, plays and a revival—not a universal ranking of quality or a guarantee that every show is still running. The awards are useful signposts, but the right choice depends on what kind of theater you want. Current availability for these productions in October 2026 is not established here.
How to read this 2025 list
“2025” here means the Broadway League’s 2024–2025 season, rather than every production playing during the calendar year. The League reported 14.7 million attendances and $1.89 billion in grosses for that season, describing it as the highest-grossing season then recorded and the second-best attended. Those figures describe Broadway overall, not the quality of any individual production. The Broadway League’s season report provides the industry context.
The selections below use Tony wins and nominations as evidence of recognition, while giving readers different forms and moods to consider. Awards do not measure every audience’s preferences, and a nomination is not a win.
Ten Broadway shows to consider from the 2024–2025 season
1. Maybe Happy Ending — musical
A leading awards-backed pick: Maybe Happy Ending won the 2025 Tony for Best Musical, along with Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score. It also received ten nominations, tying it with two other productions for the season’s largest nomination total. Choose it if you want a musical recognized across both its writing and score. The 2025 Tony winners and nominees list its awards.

Eureka Day won Best Revival of a Play at the 2025 Tonys. It is the list’s pick for someone specifically interested in a revival, a category distinct from Best Play. Its award is documented by the Tony Awards’ 2025 results.

10. Sunset Blvd. — musical revival

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the awards can—and cannot—tell you
The Tony results offer a useful way to narrow a crowded season: Maybe Happy Ending won Best Musical, Purpose won Best Play, and Eureka Day won Best Revival of a Play. Nominees such as Buena Vista Social Club, Death Becomes Her, Dead Outlaw, and Operation Mincemeat expand the musical choices. But the awards do not establish which show is best for a particular viewer, nor do they supply a consistent comparison of running time, ticket price, accessibility, or critical scores.
Check whether a show is currently playing before making plans
These are retrospective recommendations for a past season, not a verified list of productions still running in October 2026. A general ticket marketplace does not confirm the current run of each show. Before booking, confirm the production’s official schedule and venue, then verify dates and ticket terms with the seller. Broadway.com’s show listings are a starting point for browsing, not proof that any particular production remains available.
