Jonathan Shaw, Sienna’s younger brother, is dead: Art the Clown and Victoria reveal near the climax that they killed him. The film does not show the killing. Instead, it first makes the grisly head they present appear to be Gabbie’s, then has Victoria identify it as Jonathan’s.
Is Jonathan dead in Terrifier 3?
Yes. Art and Victoria killed Jonathan, and the film confirms his death in the climax. The killing itself takes place off-screen; the audience learns what happened when Victoria identifies the head Art and Victoria have presented.

That distinction matters: the movie withholds the scene of Jonathan’s death, but it does not leave his fate unresolved. The reveal is a deliberate shock, not evidence that he might still be alive.
Whose head is it at the end?
The head is Jonathan’s, not Gabbie’s. Art and Victoria initially make it seem as though Gabbie is the victim. Victoria’s identification overturns that assumption and reveals what happened to Jonathan.

The misdirect turns a grisly image into two revelations at once: Gabbie appears to be in danger, while the truth about Sienna’s brother lands unexpectedly. In an interview with io9 published October 11, 2024, writer-director Damien Leone explained the intended misdirect: “You’re not supposed to think that that’s Jonathan. You’re supposed to think that that’s Gabbie’s skull.”
Why does the movie keep Jonathan’s death off-screen?
Leone said he considered showing the death but decided against it for three reasons. First, he liked Jonathan and did not want to show him suffering after everything he had already endured. “I didn’t want to see that character suffer after everything he’s been through,” he told io9.

Second, showing the death earlier would have spoiled the later head reveal. Leone wanted viewers to believe the head belonged to Gabbie until Victoria named Jonathan.
Third, Leone said he wanted to avoid placing another death scene immediately after the extended shower massacre. He felt viewers needed a pause before the later reveal: “It would have had no impact whatsoever. I think the audience needed a little bit of time to breathe after that.” That is Leone’s explanation of the intended pacing and effect, rather than a claim that every viewer will react the same way.

What Jonathan’s death means for the ending
Terrifier 3 begins with Sienna and Jonathan trying to rebuild their lives after surviving the events of the previous film. Art and Victoria’s attack makes the danger personal again, and Jonathan’s death deepens Sienna’s losses as she confronts them.
Sienna fights back, wounds Art, and decapitates Victoria. But the confrontation does not give her a settled resolution: Art escapes, and Gabbie is left in danger in the supernatural chasm. The film does not resolve Gabbie’s fate or turn Sienna’s victory into closure for Jonathan’s death.
