Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya Review: Simplistic Sci-Fi, Winning Humour

A promising human-robot romance becomes most entertaining as family comedy, while its underdeveloped sci-fi premise and uneven pacing may disappoint genre-first viewers.

Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya has a clean, promising hook: a robotics engineer falls for a human-like robot. The film is most enjoyable when it stops trying to make that premise carry a fully developed science-fiction story and lets the family comedy take over. Reviews are divided on how well the script brings its ideas together, though Kriti Sanon’s physical characterization of SIFRA gives the central conceit much of its appeal.

What is Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya about?

Aryan, played by Shahid Kapoor, is a robotics engineer who meets SIFRA at his aunt’s robotics company in the United States. Amazon expands SIFRA’s name as “Super Intelligent Female Robot Automation.” The robot was built to test whether people could distinguish her from a human; Aryan’s attraction turns that experiment into a romance and raises the film’s central question: can a human and a robot form a deeper connection or become life partners?

Written and directed by Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah, the film also features Dharmendra and Dimple Kapadia in pivotal roles. The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) categorizes it as comedy, romance and science fiction, an apt description of a story that moves between a speculative premise and family entertainment.

Does the sci-fi premise work?

The setup invites questions about what makes someone human, how convincingly a machine can imitate a person, and whether affection can overcome that difference. But Hindustan Times reviewer Monika Rawal Kukreja argues that the screenplay does not develop the science-fiction idea enough and that the film loses momentum. That is the central limitation for viewers hoping for a romance grounded in sustained exploration of its technology or implications: the robot concept is a hook, not the film’s most consistently explored subject.

#1 Best Overall

The movie is better understood as a romantic comedy with a sci-fi device than as a rigorous or especially idea-driven science-fiction film. That balance may suit viewers who mainly want a light, unusual romance; it is less likely to satisfy those looking for a tightly constructed speculative story.

Where does the humour land?

For Kukreja, the lighter comedy arrives most clearly when Aryan takes SIFRA home to meet his family. She wrote that “some light humour comes in” in the second half, as the sci-fi shifts toward family entertainment. A Rotten Tomatoes review excerpt likewise credits the family atmosphere with making the film funny. The home-and-family stretch is therefore the strongest case for the movie’s comic side, though that delayed change of gear may feel uneven if the earlier sci-fi setup is what most interests you.

Shahid Kapoor’s Aryan is described by Kukreja as goofy, with some funny one-liners. Those moments provide a comic counterweight to a plot whose writing and pacing she finds inconsistent; they do not, in her assessment, resolve the underlying screenplay issues.

How are the performances?

Kriti Sanon’s SIFRA is a particular strength in Kukreja’s review. She praises Sanon’s gestures, walk, speech and body language for conveying the character as a robot. That physical detail matters to the premise: the audience needs to see a machine performing human behaviour, not just hear the story label her one.

Rank #3

The critical response is mixed rather than uniform. On the Rotten Tomatoes page accessed October 8, 2026, the Tomatometer stood at 43% from 14 reviews, while the Popcornmeter stood at 72% from 100-plus ratings. These are page snapshots, not fixed or definitive measures of quality. The difference between them suggests critics and audience raters were responding differently, but the small review count and changing rating totals make individual reviews more useful than treating either percentage as a lasting verdict.

Is it worth watching?

It is a reasonable pick if you are in the mood for a Hindi romantic comedy that mixes a robot-romance hook with family humour and a lead performance built around physical characterization. Go in expecting the family section and the performers to do more of the work than the science-fiction writing. If your priority is a carefully paced story that fully examines the consequences of human-robot intimacy, Kukreja’s criticism of the underdeveloped premise and uneven momentum is a fair warning.

Runtime, language and content notes

Runtime listings differ: the BBFC gives an approximate running time of 141 minutes, Rotten Tomatoes lists 2 hours 12 minutes, and the Prime Video listing consulted shows 2 hours 20 minutes. Check the runtime on the version you plan to watch rather than assuming one figure applies everywhere. The BBFC records Hindi as the language and lists mild sex references, language, violence, threat and scenes of smoking. This is UK classification guidance, not a global age rating.
