The 2024 headline about a possible spin-off described exploratory conversations, not a green-lit project. Season 4 premiered August 5, 2026, with Ted returning to Richmond to coach a second-division women’s football team.
What the 2024 spin-off hint actually meant
On June 11, 2024, Warner Bros. Television Group chairman and CEO Channing Dungey discussed the possibility of more Ted Lasso in an interview reported by 9to5Mac. The possibilities included either a fourth season or a spin-off set in the same universe. Dungey said discussions had covered those options, but her comments did not announce an order or a commissioned production.
As 9to5Mac reproduced her remarks, Dungey said: “We’ve had conversations about all of the above. I think Jason Sudeikis is open to the idea, but I think he wants to have the right idea, which I appreciate it. We at Warner Bros appreciate, Apple appreciates, because it’s the sort of thing where you don’t want to go do more, just for the sake of more, you want to go do more, because you actually have something to say, you have a story that you want to tell. We’ll see what happens.” The point was conditional: more episodes or a spin-off depended on finding a story worth telling.
Season 4 was renewed and released
Apple officially renewed Ted Lasso for a fourth season on March 14, 2025, with Jason Sudeikis returning as star and executive producer. Sudeikis described the season’s theme as “LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK.” The renewal and return were announced by Apple.

Apple later set the global premiere for August 5, 2026, with new episodes scheduled weekly on Wednesdays through October 7. The season’s announced story sends Ted back to Richmond to coach a second-division women’s football team. Apple’s release also named returning cast members Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift, alongside new additions Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely. See Apple’s season-four premiere announcement for the date, premise and cast.
Is there a Ted Lasso season 5 or spin-off?
Neither a fifth season nor a spin-off was officially confirmed in the sources available as of October 8, 2026. In August 2026, Apple executive Eddy Cue said he hoped the show would continue and that there were stories to tell, but the report noted Apple had not picked up a fifth season. That distinction is covered in 9to5Mac’s report.

A separate TV Insider report described plans to revisit the writers’ room for possible season-five stories, while also noting that no additional season had been ordered at the time. A hope, discussion or reported writing plan is not a renewal announcement. The available official announcements establish season four; they do not establish what, if anything, comes next.
