Taylor Swift’s 2024 Wembley engagement made the Eras Tour’s central idea tangible: a stadium-scale journey through distinct album worlds, held together by a performer who could make an enormous crowd feel personally addressed. The show’s shifting costumes, choreography and effects supplied spectacle; its clearest weakness, noted by one critic, was that placing the newest material late in the set could interrupt the momentum.
Eight sold-out Wembley dates, split between June and August
Swift played Wembley Stadium on 21, 22 and 23 June, then 15, 16, 17, 19 and 20 August 2024. Wembley listed all eight performances as sold out. The run brought a major international tour to London twice in one summer, with a two-month gap between the engagements. Wembley’s event information records the dates and sold-out status.
On the opening night, ITV reported Swift welcoming the crowd: “What an absolute honour it is to say these words to you – London, welcome to the Eras tour.” ITV also reported her saying there were “88,446 people in this stadium.” That was her onstage remark on 21 June, not a verified attendance count for each of the eight nights. ITV News reported the opening-night comments.
How the album-era structure works onstage
The production is organized as a sequence of musical eras rather than a conventional chronological concert. Official Charts described a ten-part show that moves through Lover, Fearless, Red, Speak Now, reputation, folklore and evermore, 1989, The Tortured Poets Department, surprise songs and Midnights. The changing sections let the concert pivot between distinct sounds, visual palettes and moods while drawing on a catalogue broad enough to sustain a three-hours-plus performance. Official Charts’ 2024 setlist identifies the revised show’s sections and songs.

Familiar touchstones include “Cruel Summer,” “Love Story,” “All Too Well (10 Minute Version),” “august,” “Blank Space,” “Fortnight” and “Anti-Hero.” The structure’s strength is its clarity: each section has its own identity, so a listener can follow the changes in style without needing the concert to behave like a single uninterrupted story. The 2024 revision brought The Tortured Poets Department into that framework, making the show a moving account of a career still in progress rather than a fixed retrospective.
Spectacle on a stadium scale, with room for human connection
Wembley’s scale is part of the experience, not just its setting. The venue said its arch changed colour to represent different eras, coordinated with light-up bracelets distributed to fans. Costumes, choreography, pyrotechnics, confetti, fake snow and fireworks extended the visual shifts beyond the stage. These effects give the production the scale expected of a stadium show, but they work best as accents to the music and the movement between eras, rather than as spectacle for its own sake. Wembley described the arch and bracelet effect and said it was “absolutely delighted to host eight of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour shows at Wembley Stadium.”

Londonist’s review found that Swift’s audience interaction made Wembley feel far more intimate than a huge stadium tour usually does. It highlighted her regular, seamless requests for “some help over here please” when she spotted people struggling in the crowd, alongside a wider ability to engage with fans. That kind of attention matters in a production built around vast images and effects: it gives the audience a sense of being seen, not merely gathered together. Londonist disclosed that it attended on a review ticket. Read Londonist’s review.
The 2024 revision adds a new chapter—and a pacing question
Adding The Tortured Poets Department gave the revised 2024 set fresh material, but the placement also raised a question about the concert’s arc. In her review of the 16 August show, Evening Standard critic El Hunt praised the celebratory run through the hits while arguing that backloading the newest songs caused a slight loss of momentum. That is one critic’s judgment, not a settled verdict across all eight performances; it points to a real trade-off, though. A late set of new material gives the latest album a substantial place in the show, while asking the audience to shift emotional register after several established eras. The Evening Standard review was published on 16 August 2024.

What made the final Wembley night distinct
The August 24 Guardian review covered the final Wembley performance and documented moments specific to that night, not to every London date. Kitty Empire noted the show’s three-hours-plus scale, the live debuts, a duet on “Florida!!!” with Florence Welch and the appearance of “So Long, London.” Those details give the final-night account a particular local charge, but they should not be treated as standard features of the whole Wembley run. The Guardian’s review of the final night records those set-specific moments.

Transport for London reported nearly 700,000 attendees across the eight London gigs. It separately counted 167,237 entries and exits at Wembley Park Tube station on Friday 21 June; that figure measures station movements, not people in the stadium. TfL also estimated that the shows boosted London’s economy by £300 million. The economic figure is an estimate, not a tally of ticket sales. TfL’s figures distinguish the overall gig attendance, Tube station movements and estimated economic impact.
