The joke: a gathering billed as a “friends and family” party had turned into a family night out at a club.
What Swift’s TikTok shows
The clip, shared on February 12, 2024, opens with Kelce in a dark, crowded club. Swift then turns the camera toward her parents, seated in a booth, before making an awkward face. Entertainment Tonight described the video as 17 seconds long; the setting is an after-party following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory, rather than footage from the game itself.
Text over the video reads, “It’s a friends and family party, they said. Bring your parents they said.” Swift’s caption adds: “Accidentally going clubbing with your parents is something everyone should try at least once in their life.” The lines appeared on her TikTok, not in a separate interview. ABC News and CBS News reported the post and reproduced its wording on February 13, 2024; ABC News and CBS News provide accounts of the clip and caption.
Why the moment is funny
Swift frames the outing as a comic mismatch between what she expected from a “friends and family” event and what the club scene looked like once she arrived. Her awkward reaction and the sight of her parents in a booth make the caption’s “accidentally” feel like the punchline. It is a self-deprecating family joke, not a claim that her parents were literally surprised or unwilling to be there.
