After the September 10, 2024, presidential debate, Taylor Swift said she planned to vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. She also explained that AI-generated images falsely portraying her as a Donald Trump supporter had sharpened her concerns about misinformation and prompted her to state her real choice clearly.
What did Taylor Swift say about Donald Trump’s AI post?
In her Instagram statement, Swift described seeing AI-generated images that falsely suggested she supported Trump. One image, reported by TechCrunch, showed her in an Uncle Sam outfit beside a message urging people to vote for Trump.
Swift wrote: “It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation.” She added: “The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.” The quotes were reproduced by ABC News, The Washington Post and TechCrunch.
Why did Taylor Swift endorse Kamala Harris?
Swift said she supported Harris because she believed Harris fought for rights and causes that needed a champion, and described her as a steady-handed, gifted leader. Those were Swift’s stated reasons for endorsing Harris, not an independent assessment of the candidates’ records.
