Taylor Swift and Blake Lively’s friendship became publicly visible in 2015, when they spent a day together in Australia. Over the next several years, their families shared holidays and celebrations, Swift incorporated the Lively-Reynolds children into her music, and Lively directed one of Swift’s videos. They were seen together as recently as 2024; reports in 2025 later raised questions about whether they were still in contact, but neither woman has publicly confirmed a permanent falling-out.
When did Taylor Swift and Blake Lively become friends?
The earliest consistently reported public milestone is 2015. While Swift was touring for 1989, she and Lively spent a day together at Warner Bros. Movie World in Queensland, Australia. Their friendship became more visible the following year, when Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, attended Swift’s Fourth of July party. 2017–2019: Family celebrations and Swift’s music
In 2017, the voice of Lively and Reynolds’ daughter James can be heard at the beginning of Swift’s song “Gorgeous.” The families continued to appear together at social events, including Swift’s New Year’s Eve celebration and her 30th-birthday party in 2018 and 2019.
2020–2022: “Betty” and a music-video collaboration
Swift named James, Inez and Betty—the couple’s three daughters at the time—in “Betty,” from her 2020 album folklore. At the 2021 Grammy Awards, accepting Album of the Year for folklore, Swift thanked “James, Inez and Betty and their parents,” adding that the children were “the second and third people that I play every new song that I write.” The speech is documented in E! In 2021, Lively directed Swift’s “I Bet You Think About Me” music video, released on November 15. It was Lively’s directorial debut. Swift later thanked her “beautiful, brilliant friend” for directing the video at the 2022 American Music Awards. That year, Reynolds also praised Swift in an Entertainment Tonight interview, saying, “Are you kidding me? I would do anything for that woman. She’s a genius,” and that his household was “obsessed” with Midnights. These are public signs of warmth, though they do not establish the pair’s private relationship at every point.
2023–2024: Concerts, football and public appearances
Lively brought her children to Swift’s Eras Tour show in Philadelphia in 2023. The two also attended dinners and watched a New York Jets–Kansas City Chiefs game with Reynolds. In 2024, they were together at Super Bowl LVIII on February 11. A September profile in Vogue described Lively as traveling to Madrid with her family to see “her friend Taylor Swift.” TIME’s Super Bowl coverage and Vogue’s 2024 profile provide dated examples of their public association.

Are Taylor Swift and Blake Lively still friends?
The public record supports a visible friendship through 2024, but the status reported in 2025 is less certain. Parade reported that a source said Swift and Lively had not spoken in months, amid subpoena-related developments in Lively’s litigation with Justin Baldoni. Other reporting cited earlier claims that there was “no rift.” These accounts conflict, and both are based on reporting rather than a direct statement from Swift or Lively; they do not establish either a permanent break or a reconciliation. Parade’s report should therefore be read as an account of an alleged pause in contact, not a confirmed announcement by either woman.
