Vegan activist Tash Peterson was removed from Crown Towers Perth on 10 August 2024 after security enforced a pre-existing hotel ban, according to a report published the next day. Peterson said staff told her the ban dated to September 2021; the reporting does not establish Crown’s original reasons for the ban or whether it remains in effect.
What happened at Crown Towers Perth?
PerthNow reported on 11 August 2024 that security removed Peterson from Crown Towers Perth the previous day, hours after she checked in with her partner, Jack Higgs. They had reportedly booked a two-night stay for Higgs’s birthday.
The report said the removal was not prompted by a protest or incident during that visit. Instead, staff enforced a prior hotel ban. PerthNow quoted Peterson describing a TikTok video in which she said staff came to their room and told her she had been permanently banned from Crown.
When did Peterson say the ban began?
Peterson said she was told the ban had been in place since September 2021, but that staff were only serving it on her in August 2024. 6PR also reported September 2021 as Peterson’s account of the date.

That date should be attributed to Peterson: the cited reports do not reproduce the original notice or independently verify when Crown issued it. PerthNow said it contacted Crown for comment, but its article did not include a company response.
Was this the same as the WA-wide barring notice?
No. The Crown matter was reported as a private hotel ban enforced at Crown Towers Perth. In separate coverage in July 2022, ABC News described a state-issued notice barring Peterson from licensed premises across Western Australia under section 115AA(2) of the Liquor Control Act.

ABC’s report covered Peterson’s objection, legal-academic commentary, a police explanation of the notice as a harm-minimisation measure, and reference to a Liquor Commission decision. It described the then-reported threshold for issuing a notice as reasonable grounds to believe a person had been violent, disorderly, indecent, or broken a law at or near licensed premises. That is a description in 2022 reporting, not current legal advice.
The available reports do not establish that the WA-wide notice was the same as, or the legal basis for, Crown’s hotel ban. The two restrictions should not be conflated.
