The footage, along with reports that Thompson and Smith had been seen shopping together in Melbourne, led to speculation about a post-show romance and a possible “couple swap.” Those were interpretations of their time together, not confirmation of a relationship.
Why Timothy Smith was on Andrea’s couch
In a later 9Now interview, Smith gave a different context for the sleeping arrangement: Thompson and her daughter were visiting Melbourne and stayed at his apartment. He said they slept in his room while he slept on the couch. Smith explained the visit to 9Now.

What they said about their relationship
Nine later reported Smith describing Thompson as a close friend. He said, “Andie’s got a great heart and a great soul.” Nine included his comments in a roundup of cast friendships.
In May 2024, Heart reported that Thompson addressed the speculation in an Instagram caption: “Here to hang out! Friends who don’t kiss on the lips, since you’re all asking.” Heart reported Thompson’s clarification.

Did the clip confirm a romance or a “couple swap”?
No. It showed Smith asleep on Thompson’s couch, and the surrounding reports prompted speculation. Smith’s account of the Melbourne visit and the later friendship comments from both cast members do not establish a romance or a “couple swap.” The cited coverage supports the clip and their friendship framing—not the scandal suggested by the headline.
