Mandurah artist Tahnee Kelland’s first T-shirt design, BANG BANG, sold thousands after its June 2024 release, according to a profile published by the Mandurah Times on 2 May 2025. Two designs that followed, CARE WAY LESS and BURN IT ALL DOWN, also sold out soon after launch, the report said. It did not provide audited sales totals or revenue, so “sell-out success” describes the profile’s account—not independently verified sales data.
How Kelland built her business before fashion
Kelland’s move into clothing followed years of retail work and an established online art business. She had spent 17 years in retail when the store where she worked closed and she was made redundant. In the Mandurah Times profile, she described using her payout to start her own business: “I was made redundant when the store I was working in closed down, and that payout gave me the opportunity to finally start my own business.”
About a decade before the profile, she began working with local printmaker Ross de Hoog to reproduce prints of her original art. Rather than rely on local shop foot traffic, she chose to focus on online sales, saying she saw brick-and-mortar stores struggling and believed the internet could connect her work with a wider audience. The profile said her prints regularly went to customers in the United States, New Zealand, Mexico, France, Italy and Switzerland.
Why BANG BANG became her first released shirt
Kelland said she had been designing T-shirts for about four years before releasing one. She waited until she had a design she felt proud of, then launched BANG BANG in June 2024. The profile reported that customers were buying hundreds while she had only a drawing of the design and the shirts had not yet been produced. It later described the shirt as having sold thousands, without specifying the total or the period covered.

The name and imagery can suggest a literal subject, but Kelland said the design was symbolic. “There are recurring themes and motifs throughout my art. For example, the BANG BANG tee isn’t about guns, cowgirls, or mermaids,” she told the Mandurah Times. “It’s a symbolic piece about intuition — trusting your inner voice, following the flow of life, and not letting other people’s opinions or expectations hold you back.”
What happened after BANG BANG
CARE WAY LESS and BURN IT ALL DOWN followed BANG BANG. The profile said both sold out soon after release, but did not give launch dates, quantities or revenue. Those details matter: the reported sell-outs establish that the designs found buyers, but they do not support a precise estimate of the business’s total sales.

Kelland also commented on the appeal of oversized shirts: “I think people are really embracing oversized tees right now — they’re comfortable, easy to wear, and make you feel put-together with minimal effort.” This is her view, as quoted in the profile, rather than independent market research.
What the profile said was coming next
In the 2 May 2025 report, Kelland said a throw rug with the brand Salty Aura was due the following month and that she had begun designing linen top-and-pant sets. The story also presented cushions, bedding and tablecloths as possible next steps for homewares. These were plans at the time of publication; that report does not confirm whether the products subsequently launched or are currently available.

A career shift, not an overnight breakthrough
The account traces a gradual transition: retail work, redundancy, reproduced art prints sold online, and then clothing designed from her existing artistic practice. Kelland also spoke about balancing the business with motherhood, saying: “But that balancing act is something I think all mothers deal with in one way or another, and a big part of it is simply accepting the season you’re in.”
