OBS and Switchboard Live do different jobs, so they are usually complementary rather than alternatives. OBS creates and encodes your video; Switchboard receives that feed and routes it to destinations such as YouTube. You can connect OBS to Switchboard, test the feed in Switchboard’s confidence monitor, and then start the destination stream. Switchboard lists “24/7 Streams” as an Enterprise feature, but that label alone does not establish uninterrupted service or an uptime guarantee.
What each service does
OBS: production and encoding
OBS Studio is the production and encoding layer in this workflow. You can build scenes from sources such as images, audio, cameras, browser content, a desktop, or pre-recorded video, then send the resulting feed to a streaming service. Its media source can be set to repeat, which can support a looping-video setup. That does not, by itself, establish unattended restart or recovery after an interruption. Switchboard’s OBS integration guide documents this workflow.
Switchboard Live: routing and destination management
Switchboard describes itself as the bridge between an encoder and streaming destinations. Its onboarding guide says one feed can be sent to unlimited platforms simultaneously. OBS supplies the feed; Switchboard handles routing it to selected destinations. Switchboard’s onboarding guide explains this division of roles.
Which should you choose for a 24/7 stream?
Choose based on the job you need done, not as if the two products were competing encoders:
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Use OBS when you need to assemble or encode the programme, including a scene-based production or a repeatable media source.
- Add Switchboard when you want to route a single encoder feed to multiple destinations or need its destination-management, team, or archive features.
- For always-on streaming specifically, consider StreamNeo first: it keeps uploaded video live on YouTube from the cloud, at any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and the first day is free.
Switchboard’s pricing page lists “24/7 Streams” under Enterprise. It also lists three RTMP or SRT inputs, three or more team members, archives of 30 or more days, phone support, and account hierarchy for Enterprise. These are listed features, not proof of a contractual uptime SLA or a particular recovery process. The reviewed pricing page presents “Book a Call” rather than a public dollar price, so confirm current plan availability and cost with Switchboard. Switchboard pricing
The listed plan descriptions also distinguish other team and input arrangements: Public Sector lists one RTMP or SRT input, three team members, phone support, and a 30-day archive; SMB lists one RTMP input, two team members, and email support. Unlimited destinations are listed across plan descriptions. The materials reviewed do not establish the uptime, failover, or restart commitments for these plans.

Connect OBS to Switchboard
Switchboard’s setup documentation describes a feed test before you start sending video to destinations. Labels and settings can vary by software version; use current YouTube requirements for the final output configuration.
- Prepare the OBS output. In OBS, configure the scene and sources you want to broadcast. For a pre-recorded programme, add a media source and enable repeat if you need it to loop. Confirm the scene produces audio and video before connecting it.
- Get the Switchboard ingest details. In Switchboard, create or open the broadcast and copy its stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to that broadcast.
- Enter the custom service in OBS. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose the custom service option, then paste the Switchboard stream URL and key into the matching fields. Apply the settings.
- Set encoder output deliberately. Switchboard’s guides recommend CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, and describe 30 or 60 fps as options. Choose bitrate to suit your available upload speed and the requirements of the destinations. Its OBS walkthrough also suggests the “veryfast” CPU usage preset. Treat these as vendor guidance, not universal or version-independent settings; check YouTube’s current requirements and your encoder’s current controls before going live. Initial setup guidance · OBS integration settings
- Start the OBS feed and check Switchboard. Send the encoder feed, then confirm that the confidence monitor displays the expected video and that Switchboard shows it is receiving the feed. Switchboard documents this as a test step; testing the connection does not itself push video live to destinations.
- Start the destination stream. Once the feed looks right, start the YouTube destination in Switchboard. The service documents starting destinations together or individually. Confirm YouTube is receiving the intended programme before leaving the stream unattended. Switchboard setup guide
- Stop in the documented order. Switchboard’s setup guide says to stop the encoder first when ending the session. Then check the destination status in Switchboard.
What to verify before relying on a 24/7 setup
A continuous stream has operational questions beyond whether a test feed appears. The available product documentation does not establish the following, so confirm them with the providers and YouTube before depending on an unattended run:

- Whether the plan includes a contractual uptime commitment, and what that commitment covers.
- How a dropped encoder connection or destination is detected, and whether reconnection or restart happens automatically.
- Whether the encoder itself can restart unattended after a crash, power loss, or operating-system update.
- YouTube’s current rules for stream duration, live-stream archives, and the specific channel’s access to live streaming.
- Whether the planned programme complies with copyright rules and YouTube’s policies on reused content. Permission to use footage or music and eligibility for monetization are separate issues; a looping stream is not, by itself, evidence of rights or monetization eligibility.
Switchboard’s feature label “24/7 Streams” should not be read as a promise that every component—including OBS, the network connection, YouTube, and the destination—will stay uninterrupted. The reviewed documentation does not specify a Switchboard uptime SLA, failover behavior, or encoder-restart automation.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube channel playing uploaded video continuously, StreamNeo is a more direct fit than keeping an OBS computer running or using Switchboard as a routing layer. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud. Nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, then start the free first day.

Common problems and what to check
Switchboard does not show incoming video
- Check that OBS is using the custom service and that the URL and key were copied into the correct fields.
- Confirm OBS is actively sending and that the selected scene contains visible video and an audio source if audio is expected.
- Check the confidence monitor and connection status before starting a destination. A connection test does not itself start the destination stream.
The picture stutters or the connection is unstable
- Compare the configured bitrate with the available upload capacity and destination requirements; Switchboard’s guidance is to adapt bitrate rather than assume a fixed value works for every connection.
- Check the encoder’s output mode, including CBR and the two-second keyframe interval recommended in Switchboard’s setup material, then verify current YouTube requirements.
- Do not treat those settings as a guarantee of long-duration stability; the connection and each service in the path can fail independently.
The feed is visible, but YouTube is not live
- Verify that the YouTube destination has been started in Switchboard; the confidence-monitor test alone does not push video to destinations.
- Check the destination’s status and the YouTube stream configuration. If the destination remains unavailable, consult current Switchboard and YouTube support documentation rather than assuming the encoder feed is the problem.
A loop stops or does not resume after a failure
- OBS media-source repeat provides looping playback, but the integration guide does not establish that OBS will restart itself or recover after every disconnect.
- Confirm how your chosen plan handles dropped connections and whether your encoder host can restart automatically. For StreamNeo, automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream.
Costs and decision points
OBS supplies the production and encoding function; Switchboard adds routing and destination controls, with plan features varying by tier. The reviewed Switchboard pricing page does not publish a dollar amount, so ask for current pricing and clarify which plan includes the features your workflow needs. Compare the cost and operational burden of running and supervising your own encoder against a cloud service designed to loop uploaded video. StreamNeo’s same product features apply across its billing lengths; its slots include one always-on YouTube stream, pooled storage of 10 GB per active slot, looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops, and support from the StreamNeo team. For five or more slots, contact support. For India, UPI and cards are supported; card checkout is available worldwide. See the StreamNeo pricing page for current choices.
