Swifty is a RYOBI spot cleaner presented as an independent candidate in an election-themed campaign—not a human mayoral candidate. RYOBI and McCann Birmingham announced a documentary following the campaign, “Taking Care of Staines,” from its launch through polling day in the Spelthorne local elections on May 7, 2026. A trailer was announced in October, with the full film expected in November 2026; no exact premiere date or viewing platform had been specified in the announcement.
What is Swifty for Mayor?
Swifty for Mayor is a documentary about a RYOBI spot cleaner turned into the face of an election-themed campaign in Staines, a town west of London. The campaign’s phrase was “Taking Care of Staines.” McCann Birmingham described Swifty as a spot cleaner “standing for mayor of Staines,” while the campaign materials framed it as an independent “candidate” in the Spelthorne local elections. The available descriptions do not establish a conventional or legally official mayoral candidacy.
The October 6, 2026 announcement says the documentary follows the campaign from its launch through election day. Its trailer was made available on RYOBI’s YouTube channels. The announcement planned the full film’s premiere for November 2026, but did not give a precise date or platform.
How the campaign connected cleaning with local politics
The campaign’s pitch was practical community support rather than a conventional policy platform. In its April 17, 2026 announcement, the campaign said it would provide free cleaning assistance to charities, volunteers, community groups and local projects. It also said participating organisations would keep the tools left behind. These are campaign claims; the available materials do not independently measure how much support was delivered or its effects.

The later documentary announcement describes out-of-home advertising, television interviews, radio and geographically targeted media. It also says a RYOBI clean squad visited community groups to clean community spaces and public areas. The film follows volunteers and local reactions through polling day.
Who made the documentary?
The announcement names Ben Fogg as director and Shaven Ape as the production company. Adam Bodfish, McCann Birmingham’s executive creative director, described the creative approach as a response to people in Staines being “bored of politics and looking for something new.” He said the team tried an alternative to “dirty politics” and let the cameras follow the campaign through polling day.

Tom Leather, a RYOBI director, said the company is based 20 minutes from Staines and considered the town its neighbour. He compared the campaign’s offer of tools to lending them to neighbours, “on an epic scale.” Both statements are attributed comments in the documentary announcement.
What the film’s campaign claims do—and do not—establish
The documentary announcement uses campaign descriptors including “Two months of campaigning” and “29,000 doorsteps,” but does not explain an independent measurement method for those figures. It also repeats a claim that 60% of citizens do not know who to vote for and attributes it to YouGov without identifying the study, dates, population or a direct YouGov source. That percentage should therefore be understood as an attributed campaign-announcement claim, not independently verified polling.

What is known about the RYOBI spot cleaner?
The campaign site identifies Swifty as a RYOBI spot cleaner and says it belongs to the ONE+ system, whose battery it describes as fitting more than 250 tools. That is the campaign site’s product description, not an independent compatibility check. The April campaign announcement mentions a flexible hose, powerful suction and attachments, but the materials do not identify a model number, the exact package contents or a specific product listing. They also do not establish which model or bundle appears in the documentary.
For readers looking for the product category, “RYOBI ONE+ spot cleaner” is a useful search phrase. Check the exact model and current listing details before buying; the campaign materials alone do not establish whether a battery or charger is included.
