In October 2023, actor Susan Sullivan said her lung cancer surgery had been successful but that healing was difficult. “The healing process is a struggle,” she wrote in a public update reproduced by TVLine.
What did Susan Sullivan say after surgery?
Sullivan shared a hospital photo and wrote about facing unexpected turns with humor and hope. In a follow-up message, she thanked people for their concern and disclosed: “I had lung cancer. The surgery was successful. The healing process is a struggle. Thanks glad you’re out there!” TVLine reproduced the October 2023 update.
Her brief post did not include the cancer subtype or details of the operation. Those specifics appeared in later interview coverage.
What later reports said about her diagnosis and operation
A 2024 report by People said Sullivan had non-small cell lung cancer and underwent surgery on October 11, 2023, at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. According to that interview report, doctors removed the upper lobe of her right lung and addressed lymph nodes. These are details reported from Sullivan’s interview and her surgeon; they are not independently verified medical records.
