Survivor Season 1, officially Survivor: Borneo, brought 16 castaways together for 39 days. Richard Hatch won the season, beating runner-up Kelly Wiglesworth by a 4–3 final vote. Here’s what has happened to all 16 cast members, based on updates reported by Parade on May 27, 2025; those details are not live-confirmed for 2026.
What became of the Survivor: Borneo cast?
Paramount’s official Season 1: Survivor: Borneo page lists the original 16 castaways. The updates below draw on Parade’s May 27, 2025 retrospective, which reports a mix of later television work, careers, family details and, for three cast members, deaths. Several people have kept their lives largely private, so the article offers limited detail about them.

Public entertainment work and later Survivor appearances
- Richard Hatch: The first season’s winner went on to appear on several reality programs, including House of Villains. Parade reports that he had not returned to Survivor since All-Stars.
- Kelly Wiglesworth: The runner-up returned for Survivor: Cambodia, where she placed tenth. Parade reports that she had a son, married and divorced, and briefly developed a television series with fellow Cambodia contestant Joe Anglim.
- Gervase Peterson: He returned in 2013 for Survivor: Blood vs. Water with his niece Marisa Peterson and finished third.
- Jenna Lewis-Dougherty: She returned for All-Stars. Parade reports that she remarried and had two more children after her first season.
- Colleen Haskell: After a small acting career that included The Animal, Parade says she chose a quiet life away from reality television and social media. The article reported that she lived in New York with her husband and two children.
- Sean Kenniff: Parade reports that he made acting appearances, worked as a medical correspondent and radio host, and published the novel Être the Cow in 2010.
- Dirk Been: He had a post-show acting role in Gone alongside fellow cast member Joel Klug. Parade reported that he lived in Long Beach, California, with his wife and daughters.
Work, family and community beyond the show
- Greg Buis: After studying ecology, he founded Pioneer Green Energy in 2010. Parade identified him as the company’s president and reported that he declined later Survivor opportunities because of work commitments.
- Gretchen Cordy: Parade reported that she was offered a Clarksville, Tennessee, morning radio show and continued doing it.
- Joel Klug: The article reported that he worked for a digital television network and a production company, and was married with a son.
- Ramona Gray: Parade reported that she married, had a son and later divorced. The article also described her participation in the Black Survivor Alliance’s representation work after George Floyd’s murder, connecting alumni advocacy to the network’s casting diversity mandate.
Castaways who died
- B.B. Andersen died on October 29, 2013, aged 77, from brain cancer, according to Parade.
- Rudy Boesch returned for All-Stars and later published The Book of Rudy. Parade reported that he died on November 1, 2019, from complications associated with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
- Sonja Christopher died on April 26, 2024, aged 87, Parade reported. The article says her reported $2,500 appearance earnings helped seed an expansion of her church.
Cast members with more limited updates
- Susan Hawk: She returned for All-Stars but left the season after an incident during a challenge. Parade reported that she later distanced herself from the Survivor community and was living on a ranch in Missouri; that is the article’s 2025 report, not a verified current location.
- Rudy Boesch: In addition to his return for All-Stars and book, Parade’s report records his death in 2019; his story is included above with the cast members who died.
Parade also reports that more than 50 million viewers tuned in to the August 23, 2000 finale. That audience figure is attributed to Parade’s 2025 retrospective.
