The promotion ran from January 30 through no later than February 25, 2026, and is now over. Finding an idol did not guarantee a trip: each successful participant had to qualify for a random prize drawing.
How the Survivor 50 idol hunt worked
The promotion paired the show’s milestone season with a scavenger hunt. Participants registered on the official challenge website and had to sign up separately for each physical challenge or the virtual challenge to access its clues. Each physical challenge had its own participation window; dates and times were communicated to registered participants and displayed at least three days before that window opened, according to the official rules.
The official announcement said the challenge began January 30, 2026, ahead of the season premiere on February 25. The rules set the promotion’s end at the close of the final participation period, no later than 11:59:59 p.m. ET on February 25, 2026. The event website now presents the hunt as over.
Physical challenges and the online challenge
There were two ways to enter. Both led to a drawing, but the tasks and logistics differed.

| Format | Task and entry steps | Location and timing |
|---|---|---|
| Physical | Register for the specific challenge, follow its clues to the idol, then register the discovery and submit a photo with the idol as instructed. Sponsor representatives were to be at hiding spots to assist with photos and entry registration. | A physical location in the relevant state, during that challenge’s announced window. |
| Virtual | Register through the site’s “Base Camp” and answer three multiple-choice questions correctly to receive one drawing entry. | Online; participants still had to register for this challenge separately. |
The rules allowed one entry per person, email address, and physical challenge. They describe 51 separate drawings: one for each of the 50 physical challenges and one for the virtual challenge.
Where were the idols hidden?
The event was promoted as having a physical challenge in every state, but the available official event page does not provide a complete historical state-by-state location list. It also does not establish a verified list of winners. Without direct documentation for each location or result, specific hiding places and winners should not be presented as confirmed facts. The official challenge site now shows that the hunt has ended.

Did finding an idol guarantee a trip to the finale?
No. A valid physical find and the required registration and photo submission produced an entry into that challenge’s random drawing; the finder was not automatically the winner. The virtual challenge also awarded an entry rather than a guaranteed prize. The rules say odds depended on the number of eligible entries in the relevant drawing.
Each of the 51 prizes was a three-day, two-night Los Angeles trip for the winner and a guest, including admission to a special Survivor event. The scheduled travel dates were May 19–21, 2026. CBS Interactive Inc.’s rules listed an approximate retail value of $5,000 per prize and $255,000 in total; actual values could vary. Paramount’s January 11 announcement said physical-challenge winners would be invited to attend the live Survivor 50 finale in Los Angeles on May 20.

Who could enter?
The rules limited eligibility to legal U.S. residents of one of the 50 states or Washington, D.C., who were at least 18 and the age of majority where they lived. In Alabama and Nebraska, the required age was 19. Certain employees, along with specified household members and immediate family members, were excluded. The promotion is closed, so these terms describe the event as run rather than a current opportunity to enter.

The hunt was a fan-facing extension of the show’s 50th-season milestone, not a separate competition in which finding the idol itself decided the prize. Host and executive producer Jeff Probst framed it as a chance for viewers to take on the show’s problem-solving spirit. In a statement reported by CBS News, he said: “Survivor has always been about testing yourself — solving problems, facing the unknown and finding out what you’re made of,” and described the challenge as letting fans try that experience themselves.
