Spoilers for Survivor 48, episode 9, “Welcome to the Party.” David is voted out after his push to expand the Strong Five to include Mary exposes a contradiction in his own alliance strategy. The episode aired April 23, 2025, and turns on a question of loyalty: why is Kyle’s protection of Kamilla a problem when David is also asking his allies to protect someone he wants inside the group?
What is Survivor 48 episode 9 called?
Episode 9 is “Welcome to the Party,” listed with an air date of April 23, 2025, by TheTVDB. Its episode listing describes rising tensions among alliance members, an individual immunity challenge that rewards concentration, and a secretive midnight journey that other players begin to notice. The listing is not a primary CBS episode page.
Why did the Strong Five turn against David?
David’s proposed Strong Five ran into trouble over both its membership and its loyalties. He pressed to bring Mary into the alliance while criticizing Kyle for protecting Kamilla. In Sydney Bucksbaum’s Entertainment Weekly recap, republished by AOL, that mismatch is the key to the vote: David recognized Kyle’s reluctance to target Kamilla, but did not seem to recognize the parallel in his own effort to bring Mary into the group.
David’s explanation for floating Kamilla’s name
Bucksbaum reports that David acknowledged floating Kamilla’s name and said he was concerned Chrissy might use her Shot in the Dark. Kamilla called him a “horrible liar”; the recap also reports that she later said in a confessional, “David is dead to me.” These are quotes as reproduced in the recap, not independently verified transcript excerpts.

The cost of asking the alliance to grow
David’s plan was not simply to keep the original five together: he wanted the group to become six with Mary. That expansion put pressure on an alliance whose members were already disagreeing about who deserved protection. As Bucksbaum frames it, David objected to Kyle’s loyalty to Kamilla while advocating for a new member himself. His push helped make his own position vulnerable rather than securing the unified bloc he was trying to build.
Who was voted out in “Welcome to the Party”?
David was voted out. His elimination ends the Strong Five as he had proposed it and, in Bucksbaum’s account, opens the game up. The available recap and episode listing do not substantiate a complete ballot tally, so no vote count is included here.

What kind of episode was it?
Bucksbaum describes an episode built around camp life, shifting alliances, and social maneuvering that culminates in a blindside. The recap’s view is that the vote was not decided by a twist, idol, or advantage; that is the writer’s characterization of this episode, not a broader claim about the season. The No Buffs podcast’s April 24, 2025 episode listing likewise describes discussion of the blindside, Kyle’s social game, and the old-school feel of the episode, but does not establish additional vote details.
