Sai Hughley was voted out before the first jury seat was awarded in Survivor 48 Episode 7. In “Survivor Smack Talk,” a challenge twist split the players into groups for immunity and voting, and the elimination order meant Cedrek McFadden—not Sai—became the season’s first juror.
What happened in “Survivor Smack Talk”?
Season 48, Episode 7 aired April 9, 2025. CBS’s official synopsis framed the episode around a challenge twist and a pivotal Tribal Council that would decide “who will make the jury.” The episode’s split-group structure led to two eliminations, with the order of those votes determining who received the first jury seat.
Dalton Ross’s recap, published by Entertainment Weekly via AOL, reports that David Kinne won the challenge, Sai was voted out in the first group, and Cedrek was eliminated later. CBS’s synopsis confirms the broad setup, but not every scene-level detail in Ross’s account.
Why didn’t Sai make the jury?
The jury seat went to the player eliminated in the later group, not the first one. Sai was the first elimination described in Ross’s recap, so she left before the season’s first juror was determined. Cedrek’s later elimination made him the first juror.

Ross also describes Sai deliberately writing her vote in cursive and Mitch Guerra using a block-a-vote advantage in a way that affected Sai’s options. Those details help explain the maneuvering around the vote, but the key reason Sai did not join the jury was the sequence of the split vote and eliminations.
Who became the first juror after the double elimination?
Cedrek McFadden became the first juror of Survivor 48, according to Ross’s recap. The episode’s challenge and voting sequence assigned that first jury spot to the later elimination group, which is why Sai’s earlier exit did not put her on the jury.

What was the strategic play around David, Shauhin, and the idol?
Ross’s recap says Kyle Fraser and Kamilla Karthigesu tried to redirect David Kinne’s view of Shauhin Davari by raising an unverified suspicion that Shauhin had an idol. The account presents this as an attempt to influence David, not as confirmation that Shauhin possessed one.
Was Sai a better choice for the jury?
There are two different ways to judge the outcome. On the episode’s strategic terms, Cedrek took the jury seat through the order created by the challenge and split eliminations. On the entertainment question, Ross argues that Sai would have made a more entertaining juror. That is his opinion about the viewing experience, not a production fact or an alternative result established by the episode.
