Caroline later said she did not know Andy had already flipped, so she misread the plan that ultimately sent her home.
What happened at the vote
In the episode’s “Operation: Italy” maneuver, Andy, Genevieve and Sam worked to break up the majority. Their plan used the possibility that Genevieve had an idol to influence how the others divided their votes. Rachel won immunity, and Caroline was voted out 3-2-2, according to TVLine’s December 5, 2024 exit interview.
Why Caroline discouraged Sue from playing the idol
Caroline said she was trying to manage Andy’s feelings about the move. The group had rejected his earlier push to target Genevieve during the Kyle vote, and Caroline believed Andy wanted a chance to make a mark. When he returned with a plan, she wanted him to feel respected and to believe he was directing it.
Caroline thought the target was Genevieve. She worried that using an advantage to alter the plan would undermine Andy’s sense of ownership and create chaos at camp. As she explained to TVLine, “I was saying, ‘No, Sue, don’t do it because if we start using advantages to make sure that this vote happens the way we want it to, he’s not going to feel like he got to take agency over this and there’s going to be chaos at camp.’”

What Caroline did not know
Caroline said she did not realize Andy had already flipped. That was the key gap between her understanding of the plan and what was happening: she thought she was helping Andy carry out a move against Genevieve, while he was no longer aligned with her side. Her explanation is a retrospective account of her own read, not an independently verified explanation from the show’s production.

- Sue could have played her idol on Caroline.
- Rachel could have used her Block-a-Vote.
- The group could have maintained control over the split vote.
Those were possible options in hindsight, not guaranteed ways to save Caroline. Her advice to Sue followed from the information and assumptions Caroline believed at the time; it was not a deliberate choice to accept elimination.
