Andy Rueda said Sue Smey preferred that he be voted out at the final six of Survivor 47, describing her attitude as: “She wanted my head on a spike.” That was Rueda’s explanation of the vote, not a confirmed statement of Sue’s private motives. Rachel LaMont played an immunity idol at the tribal council, and the recorded vote shows Rachel and Sue voting against Rueda.
What Andy Rueda said about Sue
In a post-elimination interview with Entertainment Weekly’s Dalton Ross, published December 12, 2024, and republished by AOL, Rueda said Sue was upset with him and wanted him gone. His full remark was: “Another factor is that Sue understandably was just very upset with me. She wanted my head on a spike.”
Rueda presented Sue’s preference as one factor in the final-six decision. The remark captures his retrospective account; the interview does not establish Sue’s private motive independently. Read the Entertainment Weekly interview republished by AOL.
Why Rueda thought Rachel turned against him
Rueda said Rachel told him the jury viewed his game as a “nothing burger” and thought he had moved carelessly through the competition. Because he considered himself close to Rachel, he said he did not take her criticism as a personal insult. Instead, he worried that she would reinforce the jury’s negative view of his gameplay, so he tried to convince her he had acted more strategically than she believed.

Rueda said he did not expect that conversation to make him a more appealing target than Sam Phalen. In his account, the exchange with Rachel, Sue’s preference for his elimination, and Rachel’s warning that she and Sue would not vote for him on the jury if he lied to Rachel again all shaped the situation. These are Rueda’s explanations of the players’ choices, rather than independently verified accounts of their motives.
What happened at the final-six tribal council
The recorded outcome provides the context for Rueda’s comment: Rachel played an immunity idol, and Rachel and Sue cast votes against him. The contestant record identifies the vote as taking place on Day 23 in episode 13, “Bob and Weave.” It corroborates the result and vote record, but does not establish why either player chose Rueda as a target. The key distinction is between what the vote confirms and what the interview explains. Rueda was voted out after Rachel’s idol play; his “head on a spike” line is his characterization of Sue’s attitude toward him.
