Lex Luthor and Nyxly are defeated, Alex and Kelly marry, and Kara decides she can live openly as both Kara Danvers and Supergirl.
How the finale resolves Lex and Nyxly’s threat
The two-part closing story brings Lex Luthor and Nyxly’s pursuit of the All Stone and its totems to a final confrontation. As the crisis escalates, Alex and Kelly work to keep Esme safe. Kara’s allies even consider directing concentrated solar energy to her by satellite, but Kara abandons the plan after recognizing the fear and harm it could cause.
The All Stone breaks during the battle, and Lex and Nyxly fight over its pieces. Their struggle drains humanity, but Kara concludes that simply overpowering the villains will not solve the deeper crisis. She returns with a different approach: people need to reclaim their own humanity. With Lena’s magic helping Brainy, Kara’s message reaches people widely and inspires them to resist.
Lex and Nyxly summon old enemies, while familiar allies return to help, including James Olsen, Winn Schott and Mon-El. Lex’s attempt to use a Phantom Zone portal backfires, and both he and Nyxly are taken into the Phantom Zone. The episode recap also records Lillian Luthor’s death and her final reconciliation with Lena.

What happens to Kara after the battle?
Kara’s answer to the finale’s central personal question is to stop treating her public life and her heroism as incompatible. Cat Grant tells her she has acquired CatCo and offers her the editor-in-chief job. Kara accepts the possibility of working as herself without hiding that she is Supergirl.
In the final sequence, Cat interviews Kara publicly as Supergirl. It makes the choice concrete: Kara no longer needs a secret identity to keep her life as a journalist separate from her work helping people.

How the finale brings its three storylines together
The episode closes three arcs on different scales: the immediate danger posed by Lex and Nyxly, Kara’s decision to live openly, and the family-and-friends celebration around Alex and Kelly. Its turning point is Kara’s choice to answer the villains’ attack on humanity with a message that empowers people, rather than a destructive increase in her own power. The wedding and CatCo offer then carry that choice into the characters’ lives after the crisis.
Cast members later reflected on the emotional close. Melissa Benoist described the last week on set as “really intense, really emotional, really joyful and fun,” in an interview reported by Keisha Hatchett for TVLine on October 28, 2021. In TheWrap’s finale interview, Katie McGrath discussed Lena’s happy ending as finally accepting who she is, while embracing both magic and science.
