Mister Fantastic is another standout, but there is no official cross-franchise measurement or definitive canon ranking: this is a qualitative comparison, not a measured contest.
How this ranking measures stretchiness
Stretchiness means more than how far a character can extend an arm or leg. This ranking weighs four qualities: demonstrated extension, the ability to reshape the whole body, precision and control, and resilience while stretched or reshaped. These are editorial criteria; DC and Marvel do not publish comparable maximum distances for their characters.
The ranking focuses on the comic-book characters described in the cited publisher profiles, rather than combining different film, television, or comic continuities. Intelligence, fighting skill, and popularity are not substitutes for stretchiness.
1. Plastic Man
DC identifies Plastic Man as Patrick “Eel” O’Brian, a former criminal transformed by chemicals. Its official profile describes him as a shape-shifter who can stretch his body into desired shapes, making his case about malleability as well as length. DC lists his first appearance as Police Comics #1 (1941). DC’s official Plastic Man profile

- Heroes of Goo Jit Zu Marvel Minis present mini superhero figures as a new way to play with Goo Jit Zu!
That breadth gives Plastic Man the top spot under these criteria: the available publisher description supports both elongation and reshaping. It does not establish a numerical maximum or prove that he outranges every other superhero in every continuity.
In a 2023 DC editorial, writer Mason Downey described Plastic Man’s elasticity as extending to “his bones and his internal organs.” That is an evocative description of the character’s powers, not a measurement or a comparison with other heroes. DC’s 2023 editorial on unsettling superpowers

2. Mister Fantastic
Marvel describes Reed Richards as a genius and leader of the Fantastic Four whose pliable form lets him stretch “around a problem.” That presents stretching as adaptable and purposeful, rather than just a question of reach. Marvel’s official Mister Fantastic profile
He ranks just behind Plastic Man here because the cited profile supports pliability and practical use but does not describe the same breadth of whole-body shape-shifting in its brief account. That distinction reflects the available descriptions and these criteria; it is not an official limit on what Richards can do across every comic story.

Other contenders—and why this ranking is limited
Elastigirl and Elongated Man also appear alongside Plastic Man and Mister Fantastic in GeekChamp’s January 2026 article with the same ranking topic. That list is one outlet’s editorial judgment, not evidence of a shared scale or a definitive order. GeekChamp’s candidate list
The available publisher-profile evidence does not establish comparable extension, control, or resilience details for Elastigirl and Elongated Man. Ranking them precisely against the two characters above would therefore require claims this comparison cannot support. More generally, different continuities and individual stories can portray a character’s limits differently; no cross-franchise maximum distances or published comparative scores are established in the cited sources.
