If your StreamShark-to-YouTube stream has no sound, first check the YouTube player and your device volume. If those work, find out whether the silence affects one viewer or many, then inspect the encoder’s audio source and mixer routing. The steps below help isolate where the audio disappears; no single cause or universal StreamShark fix is established.
1. Check the YouTube player, browser and device
- On the YouTube watch page, make sure the player is not muted and its volume slider is up.
- Check that the browser or YouTube app is not muted, then raise the device’s volume.
- Confirm the intended audio output is selected—for example, the speakers or headphones you are using.
- If sound is still missing, restart the browser or app. If that does not help, restart the device and test again.
YouTube’s guidance is to ensure “sound/volume is turned on for your browser or device,” and to check device sound settings or restart the browser or device. YouTube Help: How to fix no sound on YouTube.
2. Find out who is affected
Ask another viewer to check the stream, ideally on a different device or network. Compare the YouTube watch page with an embed or other available player as a diagnostic check; do not assume the embed is the cause.
- Only one viewer hears silence: focus first on that viewer’s player, browser or app, device volume, selected output and internet connection.
- Several viewers on separate connections hear silence: a broadcaster-side or encoder issue becomes more plausible. Check the signal at the encoder before changing YouTube settings at random.
YouTube describes one-viewer reports as more likely to involve that viewer’s computer or internet connection, while reports across different connections can point to the live-stream encoder. YouTube Help: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream.

3. Check whether the encoder is producing audio
Listen to the stream in your encoder’s preview. If available, also check a local recording or archive of the output. These checks show whether audio is present before it reaches the YouTube player.
- Encoder preview or recording is silent: inspect the selected audio source, its mute state, and the mixer routing. Make sure the intended microphone, desktop audio or other source is actually reaching the output.
- Encoder preview and recording have sound, but viewers do not: note that difference, then use the affected-viewer pattern to distinguish a local playback issue from a problem further along the stream path.
- More than one source is captured: check whether sources such as microphone and desktop audio are both enabled as intended, and adjust the software mixer to avoid an incorrect or silent mix.

4. If you use OBS, verify the microphone and mixer
A webcam’s video source does not necessarily add its microphone as an audio input. If the webcam mic is the intended source, add it in OBS audio settings and confirm its level in the mixer. Check that it is not muted and that its meter responds when you speak. If you intend to use another microphone or desktop audio, select and test that source instead.

5. Check the OBS audio bitrate setting
StreamShark’s OBS guide lists these audio bitrate settings by output resolution. They are configuration values from the guide, not proof that a bitrate mismatch alone causes total silence.

6. Escalate with evidence if the problem persists
If multiple viewers on separate connections report silence while the encoder preview and local recording have sound, contact the relevant streaming provider or encoder support. Include the event details, encoder name, any error indicators, and what you found in each playback check. YouTube advises reporting continuing live-stream issues; the cited guidance does not promise a StreamShark-specific repair for this cross-service symptom.
