This was a September 4, 2021 preview of selected films and series expected on five major streaming services in Canada between September and December 2021. It is a historical snapshot, not a current catalogue or complete release calendar: dates could change, some timings were still tentative, and surprise launches were possible.
Amazon Prime Video
Prime Video’s late-2021 slate mixed Canadian sports access with new dramas and genre releases.
| Title | Forecast timing | What was known in September 2021 |
|---|---|---|
| All or Nothing: Toronto Maple Leafs | October 1, 2021 | A behind-the-scenes series following the team during the 2020–2021 NHL season. |
| The Wheel of Time | TBA November 2021 | Fantasy adaptation of Robert Jordan’s novels; the exact day had not been announced. |
| The Voyeurs | Fall 2021 highlight | One of the service’s featured film releases in the roundup. |
| Goliath season 4 | Fall 2021 highlight | The fourth season was among Prime Video’s notable returning series. |
| I Know What You Did Last Summer | Fall 2021 highlight | A series reworking of the familiar thriller premise. |
At the time, Amazon said Prime Video was included with a Canadian Prime membership at CAD $79 per year or CAD $7.99 per month, plus applicable taxes. Those were September 2021 figures, not a current price guarantee. Amazon listed Fire TV, Apple TV, smart TVs, mobile devices and web browsers as viewing options.
Apple TV+
Apple’s schedule centred on returning newsroom drama, a major science-fiction adaptation and several original films and series.

Apple’s April 2021 Canadian Apple TV 4K announcement listed Apple TV+ at CAD $5.99 per month after a free trial. Apple also cautioned that not all programming was available in 4K or 4K HDR and that playback depended on compatible hardware and an internet connection; neither the price nor universal 4K access should be read as current guarantees.
Crave
Crave’s selection leaned toward returning prestige dramas, a major limited-series revival and Canadian reality-TV programming.

|---|---|---|
| Dexter: New Blood | November 7, 2021 | The continuation of the Dexter story. |
| Succession season 3 | October 2021 | The next season of HBO’s family-and-business drama; the preview gave a month rather than a specific day. |

| Insecure season 5 | Fall 2021 highlight | The final season was among the listed Crave attractions. |
In March 2024, Amazon announced a Crave Premium channel offer for Canadian Prime members at CAD $21.99 per month. That announcement documents a dated Prime Video Channels option; it does not establish Crave’s direct or current subscription price for the 2021 schedule.
Disney+
Disney+ planned a strong run of weekly event programming, with Marvel and Star Wars projects alongside documentary and drama titles.

Because Disney+ used weekly rollouts for the named Marvel and Star Wars series, a listed premiere date did not mean every episode would be available immediately.
Netflix
Netflix’s end-of-year highlights combined two large December premieres with action films and returning series.

How representative was streaming in Canada?
Usage and subscription statistics depended on the survey’s sample and definition. The Canadian Internet Registration Authority’s 2021 Factbook reported that 72% of Canadians spent at least one hour per day streaming television, movies or audio online. In that same report, the stated subscription shares were Netflix 60%, Amazon Prime Video 37%, Disney+ 17% and Crave 15%.
A later Telefilm Canada report, using Media Technology Monitor Fall 2022 results among adults aged 18 and older, reported access to at least one subscription video-on-demand service for 81% of respondents, with Netflix at 69%, Amazon Prime Video at 54%, Disney+ at 37% and Crave at 25%. These figures should not be treated as a clean year-over-year growth series: the reports used different research contexts and definitions, and the Telefilm figures counted people who subscribed to or had access to each service.
