Stormy is a 2024 documentary about Stormy Daniels (Stephanie Clifford), her account of the 2006 encounter with Donald Trump, and the personal consequences she says followed when her story became public. Daniels has described fearing for her life and her daughter’s safety. Her account of a 2011 parking-lot threat does not identify the man or establish a connection to Trump.
What is the Stormy documentary about?
Directed by Sarah Gibson and produced by Erin Lee Carr, Stormy follows Daniels as she revisits her story involving Trump and describes the attention, legal conflict and threats she says came afterward. The Los Angeles Times reported that the film addresses the 2006 encounter and later intimidation. Daniels said she wanted to keep speaking so her daughter could one day understand what she believed had happened: “I am here today to tell my story and even if I just change a few people’s minds, that’s fine. If not, then at least my daughter can look back on this and know the truth.” Los Angeles Times, March 7, 2024
The Washington Post reported that the finished film was screened to Daniels over Zoom the night before its SXSW premiere, and that she did not have editorial control over it. The Washington Post, March 18, 2024
Why did Stormy Daniels say she feared she might be killed?
The 2011 parking-lot account
In her 2018 60 Minutes interview, Daniels said that in 2011, after agreeing to tell her story to In Touch, an unidentified man approached her and her infant daughter in a Las Vegas parking lot. She recalled that he told her to leave Trump alone and warned her that her daughter was beautiful and that it would be a shame if something happened to her mother. Asked whether she took the remark as a direct threat, Daniels replied, “Absolutely.” Asked why she did not go to police, she said, “Because I was scared.” CBS News, March 25, 2018

That interview records Daniels’s account; it does not identify the man or establish who, if anyone, sent him. It is important not to treat the alleged confrontation as proof that Trump or another named person ordered or was responsible for a threat.
The separate 2016 agreement and payment
Daniels’s account of the parking-lot incident concerns 2011. The later nondisclosure agreement and payment were a separate matter: CBS reported that Daniels said she agreed in 2016 to accept $130,000 through an agreement presented by Trump attorney Michael Cohen, partly because she was concerned about her family and safety. Cohen denied threatening her. The payment does not establish who was behind the earlier confrontation. CBS News, March 25, 2018

Did threats increase after Trump’s indictment?
The Washington Post reported that Daniels received increased death threats, including threats concerning her daughter, after Trump’s indictment. In a May 7, 2024 CNN interview, director Sarah Gibson said, “The death threats have increased tenfold since the indictment and even more so since 2018 when the news first broke.” That is Gibson’s characterization: the transcript does not provide an independently audited count or method, so “tenfold” should not be read as a verified statistical measurement.
