Stories of the True is the English translation of Jeyamohan’s Tamil collection Aram, translated by Priyamvada Ramkumar. It contains twelve stories, each built around a real person or lived experience, but they are crafted literary fiction rather than documentary reporting.

What “true” means in the title
Reviewers describe Jeyamohan as an observer and chronicler of the people he writes about, and the book includes a note on its real-life characters. Those details give the stories their pull. They do not make them reportage: each is shaped with selection and interpretation that a documentary would have to disclose.
The word at the center: aram
In the author’s note, as quoted by Kirkus, Jeyamohan connects aram to the Sanskrit dharma and frames the stories as celebrations of humanity arising from fundamental ethical questions: “Arising from the most fundamental questions of aram, every one of these stories celebrates the triumph of humanity. That is the vision these stories have revealed to me. That is the flag I hold up through them.” Avoid reducing aram to “morality”; the sources describe a broader question of how to live and act.
