Stone Cold Fox is an action-crime thriller built around a familiar but promising setup: an escapee returns to an abusive commune after its queenpin kidnaps her younger sister. The film’s retro revenge premise and cast make it an appealing genre proposition, but the available critical response is mixed—praise for Kiernan Shipka and Kiefer Sutherland’s opposing roles sits alongside criticism of formula and editing. Whether its grindhouse flavor works for you depends on how much you enjoy rough-edged, familiar revenge stories.

What is Stone Cold Fox about?

Fox (Kiernan Shipka) escapes an abusive commune, but her attempt to leave its past behind ends when the commune’s queenpin, Goldie (Krysten Ritter), kidnaps Fox’s younger sister. Goldie sends crooked cop Sergeant Billy Breaker (Kiefer Sutherland) after Fox, forcing her to infiltrate the place she fled. The setup makes the central conflict personal as well as criminal: Fox has to confront the people and environment she escaped to rescue her sister.

Director Sophie Tabet co-wrote the film with Julia Roth. Listings describe it as an action, crime and thriller title, and frame it as an ’80s revenge story. It received a limited U.S. theatrical release on November 7, 2025, and runs about 86 minutes. Rotten Tomatoes lists the film’s synopsis, credits and release information.

How has the film been received?

Rotten Tomatoes displayed a 64% Tomatometer based on 11 reviews and a 50% audience score from 50+ ratings when accessed in 2026. Those figures are a dated snapshot, not a permanent consensus, and can change as reviews and ratings are added. Check Rotten Tomatoes for its current scores and review count.

Individual critics disagree about what the film does best. Tina Kakadelis of Beyond the Cinerama Dome described it as “a revenge tale wrapped in a hug,” praising its appreciation for earlier action movies and its found-family message (November 18, 2025). Terry Staunton of Radio Times called Shipka a gutsy heroine and praised Sutherland’s villainous turn, while also noting formulaic elements (May 27, 2026). Louisa Moore of Screen Zealots criticized the editing (November 12, 2025), and Phil Walsh of Geek Vibes Nation felt the film lacked the spark of a guilty-pleasure action movie (November 10, 2025). These are reviewers’ assessments rather than settled facts about the film.

What should viewers expect from the cast and style?

The premise puts Shipka’s Fox at the center of a dangerous return, with Ritter’s Goldie representing the power structure Fox has escaped and Sutherland’s Billy serving as the threat sent after her. Staunton’s review specifically praises the contrast between Shipka’s heroine and Sutherland’s villainous performance. The story’s ’80s revenge framing suggests a deliberately retro genre mode, but the critical reactions do not establish that its action, pacing or editing will appeal to every viewer.

The film also pairs revenge and violence with a found-family theme. Kakadelis found that combination effective; other critical responses are less enthusiastic about the film’s execution. Viewers drawn to that mix may find the emotional premise worthwhile, while those looking for a formally fresh or consistently polished thriller should keep the criticism of formula and editing in mind.

Is Stone Cold Fox suitable for you?

The British Board of Film Classification’s home-entertainment record flags strong language, violence, injury detail and drug misuse. Its detailed guidance also refers to stalking, knife and gun threats, kidnapping, a bound and gagged captive, corpses, domestic-abuse references, sex work and mental-health references. This is UK classification guidance, not a U.S. age rating. Apple TV’s U.S. listing likewise describes the film as violent and notes language and drugs. Read the BBFC’s full content advice.

Availability depends on territory and can change. At the time Rotten Tomatoes was accessed in 2026, it listed Netflix streaming; a regional Prime Video storefront listed digital UHD rental and purchase. Confirm the current listing in your market before planning to watch. The available listings establish digital options, not DVD, Blu-ray or 4K disc availability.
