Steve Perry and Willie Nelson recorded a new duet version of Journey’s “Faithfully,” the 1983 song Perry originally sang with the band. Dark Horse Records announced the digital-streaming release on May 14, 2025, tying it to Farm Aid’s 40th anniversary and saying proceeds from the single would be donated to the nonprofit.
Why did Steve Perry rerecord “Faithfully” with Willie Nelson?
Perry said the idea went back to the original Journey recording. “After recording ‘Faithfully’ with Journey, I always felt it would be a great song for Willie too,” he said in Dark Horse Records’ announcement. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Perry described Nelson’s relaxed, emotionally direct approach as setting the tone for his own interpretation. He called singing with Nelson a bucket-list experience and connected the collaboration to Farm Aid’s 40th anniversary.

How does the duet differ from Journey’s original?
The two recordings represent different performance contexts: the 1983 Journey version is a band recording, while the new release is a duet between Perry and Nelson. Perry described the duet’s interpretive approach as distinct from the original band sound, telling the Los Angeles Times, “This one is completely the other way.” The available accounts do not establish further specific arrangement or production comparisons.
Does the duet benefit Farm Aid?
Yes. Dark Horse Records and Perry’s official announcement said proceeds from the single would be donated to Farm Aid. The announcement does not specify a donation amount, percentage, whether “proceeds” means gross or net receipts, or when the donation would be paid. Nelson said, “I’m proud that we could create something meaningful and use it to give back through Farm Aid.” Perry’s site describes Farm Aid as a nonprofit that supports American family farmers through an annual music festival.
