By the worldwide theatrical grosses listed in Box Office Watch’s Steve Carell filmography, Despicable Me 2 leads at $975.2 million, followed by Minions: The Rise of Gru at $937.7 million. The filmography covers 29 films released from 2004 through 2024; the ranking below uses its worldwide figures, not domestic grosses or an actor-career aggregate.
How this ranking is calculated
The list ranks films by the worldwide theatrical-gross figures in Box Office Watch’s Steve Carell filmography. Its displayed row order is not a ranking: for example, Despicable Me 2 is listed at $975.2 million worldwide and Minions: The Rise of Gru at $937.7 million, so the former belongs higher when sorted by that column. Box Office Watch’s page displays domestic and worldwide figures; only the worldwide column determines placement here.
The figures are nominal grosses as reported in that filmography, not inflation-adjusted comparisons. Box-office databases may report different totals, and figures can change over time. The page does not display a publication year, so no publication year is assigned to its totals.
Steve Carell’s 10 highest-grossing movies
Each title is ranked by the worldwide gross shown in the Box Office Watch filmography. Release year is included to identify the film; no domestic figure is substituted for worldwide gross.
#1 Best Overall
- Despicable Me 2 — $975.2 million worldwide.
- Minions: The Rise of Gru — $937.7 million worldwide.
The available source details cited for this ranking establish these two worldwide grosses, but do not provide the remaining figures in the material accompanying this article. Naming ranks three through ten or supplying their totals without that data would risk inventing a sequence. The complete filmography contains 29 titles, but its full set of rows is needed to verify and publish the rest of the sorted top ten.

A movie’s worldwide gross is the film’s box-office total, not money uniquely generated by one performer. The Numbers explains its leading-role chart methodology this way: “Box office is counted in full for every leading performer, so the same film contributes to more than one person’s total.” Its aggregate chart therefore can count an ensemble film in the totals of multiple actors; it is not a measure of unique revenue attributable to Carell.
