Stephenie Meyer’s remarks about two more Twilight books date to August 2020—not a new promise or a release announcement. She said she had ideas and outlines for two stories, but her official FAQ says she was not ready to work on them and that they would not appear for “a very, very long time.”

What Meyer said about the books

At an online Books-A-Million event in August 2020, Meyer said, “There are two more books I think in the world that I want to write.” She added that the books were outlined and that she thought she had written a chapter of the first one. Those comments described projects she hoped to write, not books with confirmed publication plans. The Guardian reported her remarks at the time.

Meyer’s official FAQ supplies the key qualification: she was not going to work on the books then because she wanted to create something new first. She said returning to Twilight would be a slow process and wrote, “The most important thing to know about future Twilight books is that they won’t appear for a very, very long time.”

What the possible stories might involve

Meyer’s FAQ says a future story would revolve around the same characters, with Renesmee and Leah Clearwater narrating. She described its setting as five, ten, or fifteen years after the end of Breaking Dawn, depending on when she gets around to writing it. That range is illustrative, not a confirmed time jump or plot outline.

She has not provided final titles or a full plot for either book in these sources. The available description is therefore an early indication of characters and perspective, not a synopsis of two completed novels.

Is Stephenie Meyer writing the next Twilight books now?

The cited statements do not establish that either book is currently being written. In 2020, Meyer said she wanted to write something new before returning to the series; her official FAQ cautions that the books would take a very long time. Her official updates page lists a July 24, 2025 post marking Twilight’s twentieth-anniversary year and an event in Forks, but it does not announce a sequel release. The updates page is the author’s source for that later franchise milestone.

When will the next Twilight books come out?

No release date or preorder availability for the two prospective books is established by Meyer’s FAQ, the 2020 report, or the updates page. The most accurate answer is that there is no confirmed publication schedule in these sources; Meyer’s own description is that they will not appear for a very long time.

Why the 2020 announcement drew attention

The remarks came as Midnight Sun, Meyer’s retelling of the first Twilight novel from Edward’s perspective, was released on August 4, 2020. The Guardian reported that it sold more than 1 million copies in all formats in the US during its first week. It also reported 62,460 UK hardback copies in the three days counted for the relevant chart, citing Nielsen BookScan. These are historical figures for Midnight Sun, not sales or forecasts for the possible future books. The Guardian’s report provides that release context.

How this differs from existing Twilight books

Midnight Sun and Life and Death are existing companion or reimagining titles, not the two books Meyer discussed as future projects. Midnight Sun retells the original story from Edward’s point of view; Life and Death is a reimagining. Neither should be mistaken for a newly announced sequel, and the cited official sources do not set a definitive reading order for every edition.
