GOAT is now available to stream in the U.S. on Netflix. Despite Stephen Curry’s prominent involvement, this is not a documentary about the basketball star—or a film about his claim to the basketball “GOAT” title. It is a fictional animated sports comedy from Sony Pictures Animation.
Where to watch GOAT
In the United States, GOAT is currently streaming on Netflix, including the Netflix Standard with Ads option. Watching it requires an active Netflix subscription; it is not a free streaming title.
| Option | U.S. availability |
|---|---|
| Netflix | Streaming with a subscription |
| Netflix Standard with Ads | Streaming with the ad-supported plan |
| Amazon Video | Digital rental or purchase |
| Apple TV Store | Digital rental or purchase |
| Fandango at Home | Digital rental or purchase |
| 4K UHD and Blu-ray | Physical editions advertised by Sony |
Sony also lists Apple TV, Prime Video, Fandango, YouTube, Sony Pictures Core and Kaleidescape among its digital outlets. Prices and purchase or rental availability can vary by platform.
What the film is about
The central character is Will, a small goat who gets an opportunity to play roarball. The sport is a fictional, high-intensity competition in which large animals dominate a co-ed, full-contact league. Will’s challenge is not to prove that he is the greatest basketball player of all time, but to compete in a world built around size, force and spectacle.
#1 Best Overall
- Gladiator (4K)
That distinction matters because the title and Curry’s involvement can make GOAT sound like a sports biography. It is neither. The film takes place in an all-animal world and follows a fictional underdog through an animated action-comedy story.
What Stephen Curry does in GOAT
Curry is attached as a producer and as a voice cast member. Netflix lists him among the starring cast alongside Caleb McLaughlin and Gabrielle Union. His role gives the film a clear connection to basketball culture, but Curry is not playing himself in a documentary about his career.
The more accurate description is “Stephen Curry-produced and voice-starring animated sports comedy.” Calling it “Stephen Curry’s movie” without qualification can suggest a biographical project that it is not.

Not necessarily on the same service or schedule. Streaming and digital rights differ by country. Sony’s Canadian listing, for example, gives the film a March 24, 2026 Canadian release, while the May 14 Netflix date applies to the United States. Viewers elsewhere should check their local Netflix catalog and Sony’s regional movie page rather than assume that the U.S. date or platforms carry over worldwide.
Why the “new this week” label is outdated
GOAT was accurately described as a new streaming release during the week of May 12–18, 2026, when it arrived on Netflix. That wording is no longer current. For viewers finding the film now, “streaming on Netflix” is the useful description; it is no longer a brand-new arrival.
