There is no official StarWars.com ranking of every Star Wars Force user by raw power. The closest official ranking, a 2014 list of the best Jedi, judged characters by their impact on the saga and personal accomplishments. It calls Yoda the most powerful Jedi, but ranks Luke Skywalker first overall. Any broader ranking that includes Sith such as Darth Sidious or later characters such as Rey is an editorial judgment, not an official all-character order.
What StarWars.com officially ranked
StarWars.com’s 2014 “The StarWars.com 10: Best Jedi” is explicitly limited to Jedi in the films and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Its editors say they ranked them by “impact on the saga and personal accomplishments.” That is a measure of greatness and contribution, not a single test of Force strength.
Within that feature, Yoda is described as the most powerful Jedi. Luke is nevertheless placed first overall, reflecting the list’s broader criteria. These statements are compatible: the list distinguishes power from overall achievement rather than presenting one universal power scale.
Why “powerful” is hard to rank
The StarWars.com Databank describes the Force as “a mysterious energy field created by life that binds the galaxy together.” It says that Jedi, Sith, and other Force-sensitive people can use it to do extraordinary things, including levitating objects, influencing minds, and seeing events before they happen. The same account says the Force has a will of its own.
#1 Best Overall
Those abilities do not reduce to one comparable statistic. A character’s potential, what they have learned to do, their combat record, and their effect on galactic events are different considerations. The official pages cited here provide character descriptions and story outcomes, but no universal numerical scale or comprehensive order for Jedi, Sith, and other Force users.
A careful editorial ranking of the best-supported contenders
The order below is an editorial comparison of the characters addressed in the official sources—not a Lucasfilm ranking or a claim that every version of each character has been measured on the same scale. It weighs described Force ability alongside training, demonstrated accomplishments, and impact. Where the sources establish an achievement but not a direct power comparison, the ranking reflects that distinction.
Rank #2
-
Yoda
Yoda has the clearest direct support for exceptional Force ability among these contenders: the StarWars.com Databank entry calls him “stronger than most in his connection with the Force,” and the official Jedi list calls him the most powerful Jedi. The Databank also says he trained Jedi for over 800 years. That duration speaks to experience as a teacher; it is not a numerical power rating or proof that he outranks every Force user in every continuity.
-
Anakin Skywalker
The official best-Jedi feature calls Anakin “unusually strong with the Force” and describes him as the possible Chosen One—not a certainty in that wording. The Jedi Order account says the Council found him unusually strong, while Yoda sensed fear in him as a child. His potential should not be confused with the ability, judgment, or choices he demonstrated at any particular point in his life.

Darth Sidious
Sidious belongs in a discussion of powerful Force users because he is a Sith and, unlike the official best-Jedi list’s roster, falls outside its Jedi-only scope. The Jedi Order account identifies him as the architect of the Jedi purge and says he returned to life. Those are consequential story facts, but the consulted official material does not declare him the strongest Force user or directly rank his raw ability against Yoda’s or Anakin’s.
-
Luke Skywalker
Luke ranks first in StarWars.com’s best-Jedi feature, which emphasizes saga impact and personal accomplishments. The Jedi Order account says he brought Anakin back to the light and defeated Sidious. Those achievements make him central to the story’s outcome; they do not establish an official raw-power score above every other Force user.
-
Rey
The Jedi Order account calls Rey a powerful, untrained Force user when she finds Luke and describes her later opposition to Sidious. Those are distinct stages of her story: an early untrained Rey should not be treated as interchangeable with a later Rey. The official sources cited here do not place her in a universal ranking against the older Jedi and Sith.

How to read the ranking—and its limits
- Official scope: The StarWars.com ranked list covers Jedi in the films and The Clone Wars, using impact and accomplishments. It does not rank all Force users.
- Different measures: Yoda is called the most powerful Jedi in that feature, while Luke ranks first overall. Do not turn either statement into a broader official verdict.
- Continuity and character stage: The cited material does not provide an exhaustive roster or settle how to compare every continuity, exceptional being, or version of a character. This article does not combine continuities into a definitive canon-and-Legends order.
- No official score: The cited official pages give no numeric Force-strength scale. A numbered list beyond their stated scope is necessarily an editorial comparison.
