Both Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds were announced to end with their fifth seasons—but the announcements came more than a year apart. Paramount+ said in April 2024 that Lower Decks season five would be its final season. In June 2025, it renewed Strange New Worlds for a fifth and final season of six episodes.
What the two announcements mean
Lower Decks was already being described as ending with season five when Paramount+ announced the decision on April 12, 2024. The statement from series creator Mike McMahan and executive producer Alex Kurtzman said: “We wanted to let you know that this fall will be the fifth and final season of Star Trek: Lower Decks.” StarTrek.com’s announcement framed the season as the series’ conclusion.

Strange New Worlds received a different kind of announcement on June 12, 2025: Paramount+ renewed it for season five, while also designating that season as its last. The renewal therefore does not mean the show is expected to continue beyond season five. The announcement quoted executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers, and Alex Kurtzman: “We’re deeply grateful to Paramount+ for the chance to complete our five-season mission, just as we envisioned it, alongside our extraordinary cast and crew.” Read the official announcement.

Paramount+ said Lower Decks episodes would arrive on Thursdays during the announced 2024 run. Those dates describe the release plan at the time; they do not establish where either show is currently available in every country.

What was announced about Strange New Worlds’ production
The June 2025 announcement said production on the six-episode fifth season would begin later that year. It also listed season three’s then-scheduled premiere as July 17, 2025, and finale as September 11, 2025. Those were season-three dates published in the 2025 announcement, not a schedule for the final season.

The two series share a final-season number, not a release plan or episode count. Lower Decks had a 10-episode final season with a specific 2024 schedule announced by Paramount+. Strange New Worlds was renewed for a six-episode fifth season that was also announced as its last, without a season-five premiere or finale date in the cited announcement. Paramount+ was identified as the U.S. streaming home in the announcements; current availability may vary by country and is not established by those older releases.
