Season 5, Episode 9 of Star Trek: Lower Decks is officially titled “Fissure Quest,” not “A Mission That’s Too Short.” Paramount+’s U.S. listing describes the episode with the line “Fissures must be closed before they get inflamed.” The “too short” phrasing is an editorial question about the episode, not its official title—and the available listing information alone cannot settle whether its pacing feels rushed.
What is the official title of Season 5, Episode 9?
Both Paramount+ and Apple TV list the episode as “Fissure Quest.” The supplied title’s “A Mission That’s Too Short” should therefore be read as a review angle, not as the episode’s name. Paramount+’s U.S. episode listing gives the short description, “Fissures must be closed before they get inflamed.” Apple TV’s U.S. listing uses the same title and description.

Is the episode really too short?
Runtime metadata does not answer that critical question. Paramount+ lists the episode at 28 minutes, while Apple TV lists it at 27 minutes. Neither listing provides a pacing analysis, transcript, or detailed account of the episode’s scenes. A judgment about whether the mission feels compressed requires evaluating the episode itself; the one-line platform description is not enough to support that verdict.
Why do listings give different dates and runtimes?
The platforms do not agree on every metadata detail, and the reason for the differences is not established here. Paramount+’s U.S. listing displays December 10, 2024, and a 28-minute runtime. Apple TV’s U.S. listing displays December 11, 2024, and a 27-minute runtime. Rotten Tomatoes labels the episode “Fissure Quest” and gives an air date of December 12, 2024; its accessed page showed two critic reviews. These are platform-specific displayed details, not one universally consistent release date or runtime.

What can be said about the episode from these listings?
The listings establish the official episode title and its brief premise: fissures need to be closed before they become inflamed. They do not establish the full plot, character developments, jokes, performances, continuity references, or whether the story’s execution succeeds. Those elements should not be inferred from the short description.
