Stanley Tucci’s simple lunch pairs tuna simmered in tomato sauce with cannellini beans and twice-baked bread. The bread is meant to soften in the sauce, and the bowl is finished with fresh basil, olive oil, salt and pepper. EatingWell’s July 22, 2025 report, syndicated by AOL, describes the method but gives no measured quantities or serving size, so this is a reported cooking sequence rather than a complete, tested recipe.
What is Stanley Tucci’s high-protein lunch?
It is a savory tuna tomato sauce served with cannellini beans and crusty twice-baked bread. Tucci described the bread as hard and crusty at first, then softened by the sauce. He also mentioned onions and garlic with the beans, and fresh basil and olive oil on the finished dish.
In EatingWell’s July 22, 2025 report syndicated by AOL, Tucci called it “really good and really hearty.” The report quotes him saying of the tuna sauce, “I know it might sound gross—it isn’t,” and that the sauce becomes “really, really sweet … it is so delicious.”
How to make the reported tuna tomato sauce

How Tucci serves it
Serve the sauce with cannellini beans and twice-baked bread. The report describes beans with onion and a little garlic; it does not specify whether they are mixed into the sauce or served alongside it. Add olive oil, salt and pepper to finish. Dip or place the crusty bread in the sauce so it softens as you eat.
What the protein figures do—and do not—tell you
EatingWell gives about 10 grams of protein per ½-cup serving of white beans and about 20 grams per 3-ounce serving of tuna. Those are figures for the individual ingredients, not a calculated total for Tucci’s lunch. Because the report does not say how much tuna or how many beans go into a serving, it does not establish the protein content of the assembled dish.

Keep this lunch separate from Tucci’s tuna melt
EatingWell’s January 17, 2025 report covers a different lunch: a tuna salad with red onion, celery and mayonnaise, Emmentaler, and bread buttered on the outside and pressed for 2–3 minutes. That is a tuna melt, not the tuna tomato sauce with beans and bread described here; its reported five-minute timing does not apply to this sauce.
