Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf an SRS stream reaches YouTube but has no sound, trace the audio track through each handoff: the source, FFmpeg input and output, SRS processing, and YouTube ingest. First verify that audio exists at the source. Then check FFmpeg mapping and whether SRS is copying, transcoding, or disabling audio before adjusting codecs. The right fix depends on your SRS version, stream protocol, and whether SRS is running an FFmpeg transcode engine.
Trace the audio path before changing settings
A video stream can reach YouTube even when its audio track is missing or unusable. Check each boundary in order so you can locate where sound disappears:
- Source or capture: Is the expected audio present in the file, device, or incoming stream?
- FFmpeg input and output: Is the intended audio stream selected and mapped into the output?
- SRS: Is it relaying tracks, transcoding audio, or configured to disable it?
- YouTube ingest and preview: Does YouTube receive and play the audio track?
Record your SRS version, input and output protocols, and whether SRS invokes FFmpeg. These details determine which configuration instructions apply. SRS’s relevant FFmpeg configuration reference is from its v3 wiki, while its FFmpeg workflow page is archived v5 documentation; check the documentation matching your deployed version before applying version-specific settings.
Check that the source contains audio
Start at the earliest point in the chain. Check the source file or incoming feed, and confirm that the encoder is listening to the intended input. For a live capture, verify the selected microphone, mixer, or desktop-audio source is active and actually reaching the encoder. If no audio track enters FFmpeg or SRS, downstream codec settings cannot restore the intended program sound.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use the input stream listing and encoder logs to establish whether an audio stream exists. If the source has multiple tracks or inputs, identify which one contains the sound you expect. Do not assume the first audio stream is the right one.
Inspect FFmpeg input selection and mapping
Check the FFmpeg command and its logs for the selected inputs and output mapping. Confirm that an audio stream from the intended input is included, and that the command does not explicitly suppress audio. With multiple inputs, map the correct audio stream rather than relying on automatic selection.

Before changing sample rate or codec options, verify that the generated output actually contains audio. If the input has audio but the output does not, investigate stream mapping and output options first. There is no single command that fixes every FFmpeg setup: input indexes, stream indexes, protocols, and build options vary, so adapt the mapping to the streams shown by your own input and logs.
Find out whether SRS is transcoding
SRS transcoding is an optional workflow. An encoder can publish RTMP to SRS, which may then fork FFmpeg to transcode and publish to SRS or another server. In a direct FFmpeg publish to SRS, tracks may instead be copied. Establish which workflow you are using before editing transcode settings.

In the active SRS transcode configuration and the generated FFmpeg command or logs, inspect the audio codec, bitrate, sample rate, channel count, and any additional audio parameters. The SRS v3 FFmpeg configuration reference documents examples of these settings:
acodec copypasses through the input audio without re-encoding. That preserves the source codec, which may not suit the destination.- An AAC encoder can transcode the input audio to AAC, if audio is present and mapped.
acodec andisables audio output, resulting in a video-only transcode.
Use the actual generated command as a check on what SRS is doing. A setting in a configuration file is not enough to establish that the expected audio stream is reaching the output.

Match audio settings to YouTube’s ingest protocol
For YouTube RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube’s live encoder settings page lists AAC or MP3 audio. Its recommended advanced settings for stereo are 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. For 5.1-channel audio over RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube specifies AAC and recommends 48 kHz and 384 kbps. These are YouTube recommendations for the stated protocol and channel layout, not universal requirements for every SRS output.
| Intended layout | YouTube RTMP/RTMPS audio guidance |
|---|---|
| Stereo | AAC or MP3; recommended advanced settings: 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps |
| 5.1 surround | AAC; recommended settings: 48 kHz and 384 kbps |
YouTube supports mono, stereo, and 5.1 ingestion. Other channel layouts may convert unreliably to stereo, so confirm the output layout rather than assuming a multichannel input will be downmixed as intended. YouTube recommends RTMPS for transport security; changing to RTMPS does not, by itself, fix an absent audio track. Check the ingest URL and stream key separately from the audio path.

Keep SRS HLS issues separate from YouTube RTMP issues
If your affected output is SRS HLS rather than the RTMP/RTMPS feed sent to YouTube, use the HLS-specific guidance. SRS documents AAC for audio-only HLS delivery and identifies H.264 with AAC or MP3 for its HLS path. Its HLS documentation also describes possible audio corruption associated with timestamp conversion between FLV and MPEG-TS and includes an HLS-specific configuration note for hls_dts_directly.
That timestamp setting is not a general fix for silent YouTube RTMP/RTMPS ingest. Apply HLS guidance only when diagnosing the HLS delivery path described by SRS.
Verify the result in YouTube Live Control Room
Before an event, send a test with audio and video representative of the intended stream. Check that the preview has sound before starting, then monitor YouTube’s stream health and messages during the event. If the preview is silent, return to the last verified handoff: check the source, FFmpeg output, and SRS output independently rather than changing several settings at once.
Troubleshoot by symptom
| Symptom | Likely point to inspect | Diagnostic action |
|---|---|---|
| The source or input has no audio track | Capture device, selected input, or source file | Confirm the intended audio input is active and that the feed entering FFmpeg or SRS contains audio. |
| Input has audio but FFmpeg output does not | Input selection, stream mapping, or output options | Inspect the command and logs; map the intended audio stream and check that audio is not suppressed. |
| FFmpeg output has audio but SRS transcode output does not | SRS transcode configuration or generated FFmpeg command | Check codec and audio parameters, confirm the intended track is mapped, and look for acodec an. |
| Audio is copied through but YouTube does not play it as expected | Copied source codec or channel layout | Check the final codec and layout against YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS guidance; consider AAC transcoding when appropriate. |
| Only SRS HLS delivery is silent or corrupted | HLS codec or timestamp-conversion path | Follow the SRS HLS-specific audio and timestamp documentation rather than applying its HLS options to YouTube RTMP. |
| YouTube receives video but its preview has no sound | Any handoff since the last point where audio was verified | Check source, FFmpeg output, and SRS output in sequence, then review YouTube stream health and messages. |
