Netflix unveiled it on October 31, 2024, at Lucca Comics & Games. The season subsequently premiered globally on Netflix on December 26, 2024.
What does the first Season 2 teaser show?
The teaser establishes the returning figures and the season’s central tension without revealing the full story. Lee Jung-jae returns as Gi-hun, Lee Byung-hun as the Front Man, and Wi Ha-jun as detective Hwang Jun-ho. Netflix described Gi-hun as carrying scars from the previous games and returning with a resolve to expose the competition’s deadly truth. Netflix’s teaser announcement came from the season’s debut at Lucca Comics & Games, where Lee Jung-jae, Wi Ha-jun, and director Hwang Dong-hyuk appeared in person.
That is a setup, not a scene-by-scene account of the season. The teaser signals that Gi-hun’s confrontation with the game’s organizers will continue, while Jun-ho’s return keeps the investigation thread in play.
Why does Gi-hun go back into the game?
Netflix’s later premise places the story three years after Gi-hun wins the first competition. Rather than follow through on plans to go to the United States, he returns with a new resolution and enters another life-or-death contest, where participants compete for a stated prize of 45.6 billion won. The later synopsis traces his search from the suited Recruiter playing ddakji in the subway back to the game itself. For viewers, the key shift is motivational: Gi-hun is no longer simply trying to survive or claim the prize. He wants to find out who runs the competition and stop them. The teaser points toward that conflict, but the later synopsis provides the clearer explanation.
Who returns, and who joins the cast?
Hwang Dong-hyuk created the series and returned for Season 2 as director, writer, and producer. Alongside Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, and Wi Ha-jun, Gong Yoo returns as the Recruiter. Netflix announced new cast members Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an. Netflix Tudum’s later cast guide also includes Lee Seo-hwan and Chae Kuk-hee.

The teaser’s emphasis is on the returning characters and the renewed contest, rather than on explaining every new participant’s role. Netflix’s cast guide is the better place to check character details if you want more than the spoiler-light setup.
When did Season 2 come out, and how many episodes are there?
Netflix announced a global premiere date of December 26, 2024, and the season is now released. Netflix Tudum stated on June 23, 2025, that all seven episodes were streaming. Availability can vary by territory; the announcement establishes Netflix as the release platform, not current availability in every country.

What did Netflix later report about the season?
In a June 23, 2025 article, Netflix Tudum reported 192.6 million views “so far” and called Season 2 the third-largest TV season in Netflix history at that time. This is a dated Netflix-published figure, not a current total or an independently audited measurement. In November 2024, Netflix had described Season 1 as having over 330 million cumulative views to date; that was also Netflix’s own historical figure, not a third-party count.
In that later Tudum coverage, Hwang Dong-hyuk said, “I do have a lot on my shoulders, but I’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.” He also described the season’s central pursuit this way: “Gi-hun’s endeavor to find out who these people are and why they do what they do is the core story of Season 2.” These were later comments about the season, not lines from the teaser announcement.

If you need to revisit the story before watching, Netflix’s before-and-after-watch guide offers Season 1 context and links to Season 2 coverage. For cast roles, episode information, and the ending, use Netflix Tudum’s later Season 2 guide and post-watch material; those go beyond what the first teaser reveals.
Is there an official Squid Game tracksuit?
Netflix announced a PUMA collaboration that remade the T7 tracksuit using the contestants’ uniform as inspiration, along with themed shoes. Netflix described the apparel collaboration as globally available when it was announced; that does not establish what is currently in stock. If shopping, check the seller, licensing details, sizing, and present availability rather than assuming a marketplace listing is official.
