Her central goal is to reunite with the daughter she left behind when she defected from North Korea. Park says No-eul also joins the game hoping to spare people who are suffering a painful end—a mission that helps explain why she defies the operation exploiting injured players.
Who is Guard 011?
Guard 011 is No-eul, a pink guard and expert sniper portrayed by Park Gyu-young. Netflix’s Season 2 ending explainer identifies her as a North Korean defector who left her family, including her daughter, behind.
What motivates No-eul?
Reuniting with her child is No-eul’s core stated purpose. In Netflix’s explainer, Park says No-eul “has no other purpose in life than to reunite with her child.” Park also describes the anguish and pain No-eul carries from that separation.
Park connects that pain to No-eul’s reason for working at the game: “No-eul begins working at the game with the mission of letting hopeless people pass on peacefully without pain.” She adds that No-eul wants to lift the pain of others and give peace to people suffering as she is. The comments frame No-eul as emotionally conflicted, not simply cold or mercenary.

Why does Guard 011 defy the organ-harvesting operation?
The operation exploits injured players by harvesting their organs. Park’s description of No-eul’s mission—to spare suffering people a painful death—helps explain why she resists that scheme and chooses to end injured players’ suffering rather than let them be exploited.
That is the broad rationale Park gives, not a definitive explanation for every tactical choice No-eul makes. The character’s empathy and personal anguish are explicit in Park’s account; more specific claims about her reasoning in any individual moment should be treated as interpretation rather than confirmed motive.

What Park’s explanation does—and does not—establish
- Established: No-eul’s separation from her daughter and desire to reunite with her are central to her character.
- Established: Park describes No-eul as wanting to spare suffering people a painful end, which illuminates her opposition to the exploitation of injured players.
- Not established by these comments: A single calculation behind every action, or a definitive account of every tactical decision.
Netflix’s cast guide, dated February 4, 2025, likewise describes No-eul as a soldier and North Korean defector who harbors deep pain. Together, the official character material and Park’s comments make her defiance legible as an expression of that suffering and empathy, without reducing all her choices to one motive.
