Squid Game: America is not an announced upcoming Netflix series. As of 27 September 2026, the latest reporting says the David Fincher-linked project is no longer moving forward, and Netflix has never officially confirmed a release date, cast or production schedule.
Is Squid Game: America cancelled?
The safest description is shelved or reportedly cancelled, rather than officially cancelled by Netflix. What’s on Netflix reported on 6 August 2026, citing The Playlist, that the English-language project associated with David Fincher was no longer moving forward. The Playlist also reported that Netflix had never formally confirmed the project’s title, cast or production timetable.
That means it should not be treated as an active Netflix production or as a dated upcoming season. A future revival is possible in principle, but it would require a new, on-the-record announcement.
Does Squid Game: America have a release date?
No. Netflix has announced no release date, release window, trailer, episode count or filming schedule for the project.

A 2025 trade or production-listing report mentioned a possible Los Angeles filming start on 26 February 2026. That date was never an official Netflix confirmation, and the later 2026 reports said the project was no longer moving forward. It therefore cannot be used as evidence that filming began or that a 2026 premiere was planned.
Who was attached to the reported project?
Every major name connected with the American project came from development reporting rather than a Netflix casting announcement.

| Person | What was reported | What is confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| David Fincher | Reported as the intended director and producer during development. | The latest status report says his next project will not be Squid Game-related. |
| Dennis Kelly | Reported as the writer for the English-language project. | Netflix has not publicly confirmed him as a credited writer. |
| Cate Blanchett | Production-list coverage listed her as the only name associated with the proposed American project. | The Playlist found no indication that she was actually attached, and reporting did not describe the project as being built around her character. |
Netflix never publicly confirmed a cast. Names beyond those development reports should not be presented as members of a Squid Game: America cast.
What would Squid Game: America be about?
The consistent premise was an English-language spin-off set in the same universe as the Korean series, exploring how the games operate in America. Early speculation alternated between a remake and a spin-off; later reporting favored a same-universe spin-off.

No official character list, game list, season synopsis or detailed setting was released. Claims about specific American children’s games, a new American Front Man or particular U.S. political themes go beyond what was reported. Until Netflix provides a synopsis, those details remain speculation rather than plot information.
Was Cate Blanchett’s recruiter cameo a teaser?
Blanchett appeared briefly as an American recruiter in the Korean Season 3 finale. That scene confirms a character within the Korean series, not her casting in the proposed American production. Reporting on the development project did not establish that the spin-off was built around the recruiter, and the cameo alone is not a production announcement.

How the Korean story ends and where the spin-off would fit
Netflix’s official Tudum guide calls Season 3 “the third and final season,” and the season is streaming on Netflix. It follows Gi-hun after the failed rebellion, the Front Man’s betrayal and the death of Gi-hun’s friend, as the surviving players are forced into more deadly games.
Tudum lists Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, Jo Yuri and Kang Ae-sim among the cast. Netflix also said in 2025 that Season 2 had reached 192.6 million views and was, at that point, the third-biggest season of a television show in Netflix history.

Those facts establish that the Korean narrative has a completed three-season run. They do not confirm that an American spin-off would continue the finale’s characters or events; the proposed project was only described broadly as taking place in the same universe.
What to check if an American version is revived
A genuine revival would need to answer questions that the development reports left open:
| Question | Evidence a real announcement should provide |
|---|---|
| Remake or spin-off? | A clear statement about whether it retells the Korean story or introduces a separate story in the same universe. |
| Netflix status | A Netflix newsroom, Tudum or investor-facing confirmation, rather than an unverified listing. |
| Creative leadership | Officially credited director, producers and writer; previous reports about Fincher and Kelly were not confirmations. |
| American setting and games | A synopsis or production statement explaining the U.S. location, organizers and games. |
| Connection to the Korean finale | Named returning characters or a stated relationship to the completed Korean storyline. |
| Release plan | A confirmed production update, trailer or release window. A third-party filming date alone is insufficient. |
Bottom line for viewers waiting for the U.S. series
There is currently no confirmed Squid Game: America to watch or schedule on which to rely. The Fincher-linked version is reportedly no longer moving forward, its reported creative attachments were never formally announced, and Blanchett’s recruiter appearance does not prove a spin-off casting deal. The completed Korean series remains available through Season 3 on Netflix.
