Spotify announced the Canadian rollout of its AI Playlist beta on September 24, 2024. At launch, the English-language feature was rolling out to Premium subscribers on Android and iOS in Canada, the United States, Ireland and New Zealand. Spotify later listed Canada among more than 40 markets for the English beta in an April 24, 2025 update. That history does not guarantee the feature is available to every account today.
What Spotify’s Canada announcement meant
AI Playlist lets listeners describe the music they want in a text prompt; Spotify then generates a personalized selection of songs. The company said listeners could refine the selection with further prompts. The September 2024 announcement described this as a beta rollout, not a completed launch for every Spotify listener in Canada. Spotify had first introduced the beta to Premium subscribers in the U.K. and Australia in April 2024. In April 2025, it announced availability in more than 40 additional markets and included Canada in its published list. The later market update adds context to the rollout, but a dated market list is not a live check of an individual Canadian account.
Who can use AI Playlist in Canada?
Spotify Support currently labels AI Playlist as a Premium feature for mobile and says it is available in English. The support page consulted is localized for Malta, so it clarifies the general feature requirements but does not independently confirm access for a particular Canadian account. Check the Spotify mobile app to see whether AI Playlist appears for you. Spotify’s AI Playlist support page describes the current general guidance.

How to make an AI Playlist
- Open Spotify’s mobile app and search for “AI Playlist,” or go to Your Library, tap the plus button, and choose AI Playlist.
- Choose a suggested prompt or write your own description of the music you want.
- Review the generated songs. Remove tracks you do not want, or send another prompt to refine the playlist.
- When you are satisfied, tap Create to save it to Your Library.
Spotify recommends combining details such as genres, moods, artists or decades. Its examples include “upbeat pop music for my European summer vacation” and “a romantic playlist for date night at home.” The company also suggests trying places, activities, movie characters, colors or emojis; these are Spotify’s prompt suggestions, not guarantees about what results any particular prompt will produce.

Spotify said the beta would not produce results for prompts unrelated to music, citing current events and specific brands as examples. It also said it had measures to address offensive prompts. These are descriptions of the feature’s behavior in Spotify’s September 2024 announcement and may change as the beta evolves.
