The company later confirmed changes across parts of South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific. There was no single worldwide increase or complete public country list. The United States was excluded from the June rollout and received a separate increase announced on January 15, 2026.
What Spotify announced
Industry reporting in April 2025 described planned increases in Europe and Latin America, with Individual subscriptions expected to rise by roughly the equivalent of €1 per month in some markets. Spotify’s official announcement on August 4, 2025 confirmed price updates in multiple international markets, but directed customers to their local Premium page instead of publishing a definitive country-by-country list. Spotify said periodic updates help it continue investing in product features and audio content while responding to changing market conditions.

The company’s filing explains that subscription prices are adapted to local purchasing power, costs and willingness to pay. That localized model is why a change in one country cannot be applied reliably to another.

When did the increases happen?
- April 2025: Reports pointed to planned increases in parts of Europe and Latin America, potentially beginning in June.
- June 2, 2025: France’s reported new prices took effect.
- June through summer 2025: Other markets implemented changes on their own schedules; June was not a universal date.
- August 4, 2025: Spotify confirmed a broader international wave covering several regions.
- September 2025: Spotify announced additional increases in selected markets.

Local Spotify pages and subscriber emails also reflected changes in other markets. The Netherlands and Luxembourg had previously seen especially large increases on some Duo and Family tiers. These examples should not be treated as a complete list.
Regions named by Spotify
Spotify’s August announcement referred to markets in South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific. Because it did not enumerate every country, no article can accurately say that every country in those regions, or every Premium plan, changed at the same time.
Country, currency, taxes, billing platform, plan type and customer status all affect the final price. The authoritative answer for an individual account is the local Premium page and Spotify’s pricing email.

These figures come from country-specific reporting. They demonstrate why the often-repeated “€1 increase” applies only to certain Individual plans, not automatically to Duo, Family or Student.
United States: a separate 2026 event
The United States was not part of the June 2025 international rollout. Spotify’s January 15, 2026 announcement raised U.S. Individual Premium from $11.99 to $12.99 per month. Current U.S. tier pricing reported alongside that change is:

What existing subscribers should expect
Spotify’s support guidance says existing subscribers generally receive an email explaining the new price and get one month at the old rate before the higher charge applies. Market rules can differ, so the email’s effective date controls. Trial users generally receive one month at the original price after the trial ends before the new rate applies.
Check these details before the next renewal:
- The effective date stated in Spotify’s email.
- Your next billing date and current plan.
- Whether Spotify, Apple, Google or a telecom provider bills you.
- Whether a trial or promotion ends before the increase.
- The cancellation or change deadline shown by the billing provider.
Apple-, Google- and telecom-billed subscriptions may have different dates, taxes and cancellation controls. Cancel through the provider listed on your account; canceling inside Spotify does not necessarily end an app-store subscription.

Can you reject the higher price?
Cancel before the affected renewal
Canceling before the relevant renewal or effective date prevents the next paid renewal under the provider’s rules. You normally retain Premium until the paid period ends, but confirm the date shown in your account.

Downgrade or change plans
An Individual or Student plan may cost less than Duo or Family, but changing tiers removes shared access or other eligibility benefits. Student eligibility and available plans vary by country.
Use Spotify Free
The ad-supported tier keeps access to saved music and playlists but adds advertising and other listening restrictions, including less control over playback than Premium.
Check gift-card limits
Spotify’s support page says gift cards may still be redeemable for Individual Premium in the market covered by that guidance. Gift-card rules are market-specific and do not necessarily apply to Duo, Family, Student or partner-billed accounts.

Spotify’s stated reasons are changing market conditions and continued investment in the service, features and audio content. The company also says its goal is to keep delivering value to listeners and benefit artists. That is a corporate rationale, not proof that benefits increased in proportion to every price change.

Industry analysis has linked the increases to higher revenue per paying user and profitability efforts. Those are business interpretations, not Spotify’s sole stated explanation. Spotify’s annual filing describes a pricing system calibrated to local purchasing power, cost levels and willingness to pay.
Did Premium’s value change?
Premium generally includes ad-free listening, on-demand playback, offline downloads and podcast access. Video and audiobook features are available only in selected markets and plans. Spotify investor-day materials discussed U.S. Individual pricing of $12.99 and Student pricing of $6.99, and audiobooks in more than 20 markets, but those statements should not be generalized to every subscriber.
A price increase does not automatically mean that every affected customer received new benefits. Compare the features actually listed for your country and plan.
Should you stay, downgrade or switch?
Staying may make sense when
- Your playlists, recommendations, Wrapped history or podcast subscriptions are difficult to replace.
- You regularly use offline listening and ad-free playback.
- A Duo or Family plan remains cheaper per active member than separate Individual subscriptions.
Recalculate shared plans
Use your local currency and current local prices. Divide the total Family or Duo charge by the members who actually use it, then compare that amount with separate Individual plans. Follow Spotify’s household, address and account-limit rules; plan structures vary by market.

Switching may make sense when
- You already pay for an ecosystem bundle, such as Apple services, YouTube Premium or Amazon Prime.
- Lossless audio or a music-focused experience matters more than Spotify’s recommendations.
- Your local Spotify price is no longer competitive after taxes and currency conversion.
Compare Apple Music, YouTube Music/YouTube Premium, Amazon Music, Deezer and Tidal using current local prices and included services. Playlist-transfer tools such as Soundiiz and TuneMyMusic can help, but matching is imperfect and free tiers may limit transfers. They do not migrate every listening-history, recommendation or podcast element.
Do not change your account country or use a VPN to obtain cheaper pricing. Country, payment-method and terms-of-service requirements can trigger billing or access problems.
How to verify your own price
- Open your Spotify account page and identify the plan and billing provider.
- Read the latest Spotify pricing email, including its effective date.
- Check the next billing date with Spotify or the external provider.
- Open the local Premium page while signed into the correct country account.
- Compare the displayed price with your latest charge, including tax or currency-conversion effects.
- If the price no longer works for you, change or cancel the plan before the stated deadline through the correct billing provider.
Bottom line on the “starting June” headline
Spotify’s increase was real, but it was a staggered 2025 international rollout rather than one global June event. France provides the clearest June 2 example; other countries and plans changed on different schedules and by different amounts. The U.S. increase came later, in January 2026. Your actual bill depends on country, plan, tax treatment, billing route and renewal date, so Spotify’s local pricing page and notice email are more reliable than a worldwide headline.
