Spotify has documented several playback bugs in 2026, but there is no official confirmation of one universal, still-active bug that makes every queued track fail after the latest update. Start by checking that the queue is populated, then test playback on the Web Player or another device. If the problem is local, Spotify’s recommended sequence is restart, update, check Offline Mode and connectivity, clear the cache, and reinstall only as a last resort because reinstalling removes downloads.
Is this a Spotify outage or an update regression?
Spotify directs users with playback failures to its status channels and Community issue board rather than assuming that an app update is responsible: Spotify’s playback troubleshooting guide and the Community Ongoing Issues board.
The board records separate incidents, not one confirmed queue failure affecting everyone:
| Incident | Status and scope |
|---|---|
| Playback stopped after a track ended | Marked fixed May 19, 2026; the report does not establish a current universal queue bug. |
| Android app version 9.1.56.571 would remain loading or do nothing | Marked fixed June 24, 2026; this was a version-specific Android report. |
| Desktop tracks played about 8–9 seconds, then skipped silently | Marked fixed April 30, 2026; a separate desktop symptom. |
| Autoplay or radio failed to add more tracks | Marked fixed in 2026; Autoplay is different from manually queued songs. |
Those reports show that regressions can happen, but they do not prove that every current queue problem was caused by one particular update, platform, or account type.

First, identify what is failing
- The queue is visible, but the next song never starts.
- The queue is empty or was replaced.
- The current song ends and playback stops.
- A queued song is skipped immediately.
- A song is gray or unavailable.
- A manually selected song plays, but later queued songs do not.
- Queue playback works on one device but not another.
- Spotify Connect is sending audio to a different device.
The Play Queue is the list scheduled to play next. Autoplay generates recommendations after an album, playlist, or queue ends; it is not the same list. Spotify explains both functions in its Play Queue guide and Now Playing guide.
Confirm and reset the queue
Mobile and tablet
- Start a song and tap the Now Playing bar.
- Tap the Play Queue icon and check that the affected tracks are listed.
- Use the three-dot menu beside a problem track and choose Add to Queue after removing it.
- If the list is corrupted or confusing, tap Clear, then build a new queue.
On mobile, Spotify also supports swiping right to add a track, holding the drag control to reorder items, and swiping left to remove them.
Desktop and Web Player
- Start playback and click the Play Queue icon beside the play bar.
- Open the three-dot menu or right-click a problem track, remove it, and add it again.
- Choose Clear queue, confirm, and rebuild the list if necessary.
Menu wording can vary slightly by operating system and interface rollout. The platform-specific controls are documented by Spotify at support.spotify.com/us/article/play-queue/.

Fix queued playback in the least disruptive order
1. Start a fresh playback session
Pause the song, close Spotify completely, reopen it, play one track directly from an album or playlist, and add a different song to the queue. This separates a damaged queue state from a broader playback failure.

Sign in to the same account in the Web Player, on another phone or computer, or over cellular data instead of Wi-Fi. If the queue works there, the original app, device, network, firewall, cache, or playback target is the likely boundary. Spotify recommends these comparisons in its official troubleshooting steps.
3. Check Offline Mode and connectivity
On mobile, open Profile picture → Settings and privacy → Data-saving and offline and make sure Offline mode is off unless the tracks were downloaded. On desktop, check the Spotify menu on macOS, or three-dot menu → File on Windows.

Undownloaded tracks can appear gray in Offline Mode. Test another app or webpage, restart Wi-Fi, switch networks, and check whether firewall or security software is filtering Spotify. Spotify’s Offline Mode instructions are at support.spotify.com/us/article/spotify-is-offline/.
4. Update Spotify and the operating system
Check the app store or desktop client for a pending Spotify update and install available operating-system updates. Do not use unofficial APKs, modified installers, or an assumed downgrade; Spotify provides no official rollback method for this symptom.

Cache clearing is separate from reinstalling and is not described by Spotify as deleting your playlists or account library. Spotify recommends at least 1 GB of free memory in its storage guidance, while its general playback page lists 250 MB as a separate device check; these are different support thresholds, and more free space is safer for downloads.
6. Verify the playback device
Open the device selector and choose This device or the intended speaker, car system, TV, console, or phone. Stop playback on other active devices, then reopen the queue. A correct queue can appear idle when Spotify Connect is controlling another output.
7. Rebuild the queue in small groups
- Clear the queue and restart Spotify.
- Play one track directly.
- Add one test song and wait for the current song to end, or skip to the next track.
- If it works, add the remaining songs in smaller groups.
- If one song repeatedly fails, remove it and test another catalog version.
A single unavailable, region-restricted, local-file, or removed release should not be treated as proof of a queue-wide bug.

8. Reinstall only after protecting downloads
Spotify lists reinstalling as an official broad troubleshooting step, but reinstalling removes downloaded music and podcasts from the device. Download them again afterward. For users with extensive offline libraries, use this order first: restart, test elsewhere, update, clear cache, verify network and Offline Mode, rebuild the queue, then reinstall. Spotify’s guidance is at support.spotify.com/na-en/article/spotify-not-playing/.

Android
- Check free storage and test without a malfunctioning SD card.
- Review battery-saving and data-management restrictions that may suspend Spotify.
- Record the app version; Android version 9.1.56.571 was associated with a separate incident marked fixed June 24, 2026.
iPhone and iPad
- Restart the app, clear its cache, and test cellular data.
- Preserve downloaded content before considering reinstalling.
Windows and macOS
- Clear the desktop cache and check firewall or security-software exceptions.
- Confirm the selected output device and compare with the Web Player.
Web Player
Use it as a diagnostic comparison. If it plays the same account and queue normally, focus on the original app, device, or network rather than assuming a Spotify-wide outage.
When only some queued songs fail
- Gray track: Offline Mode, connectivity, or market availability may be involved.
- Local file: The source file may be missing or unreadable on that device.
- Removed or restricted release: Try another version of the song or album.
- Shuffle or Smart Shuffle: Verify the actual Play Queue instead of judging order from recommendations.
Spotify’s offline guidance also notes a five-device download limit and a 30-day connection requirement for maintaining downloads; these edge cases matter mainly when offline content is involved. See Listen offline.
When to stop troubleshooting and report it
If direct playback and queued playback fail across devices and networks, check @SpotifyStatus and the Community Ongoing Issues board. Report the problem with:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Device model and operating-system version.
- Spotify app version and whether you used mobile, desktop, Web Player, or Connect.
- Whether direct playback works and whether the queue is visibly populated.
- The exact error, skipped-track behavior, and affected songs.
- What happened after switching networks, clearing cache, or testing another device.
Do not claim that a specific August 2026 update caused the problem unless Spotify identifies that release or incident. The available official records establish several fixed playback incidents, not one confirmed universal queue regression.
